Police Officer

Duties and Responsibilities:

• On assigned shift, operate a police vehicle, bicycle, or walk to observe for criminal and traffic violations
• Look for suspicious activity and check on suspicious persons
• Check on disturbances of law and order and arrest suspects who violate the law
• Write and report incidents
• Respond to radio dispatches and answer calls/complaints
• Serve warrants and testify in court
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to be a certified police officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia within twelve (12) months of date of appointment as a law enforcement officer
• 20-40 uncorrected vision and no proven symptoms of being color blind
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors during various hours such as nights, weekends and holidays
