    The Occupational Therapist assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitation programs to restore or improve function in activities of daily living, functional mobility, cognitive tasks, strength, coordination, and range of motion in patients affected by disease or injury. Services are provided across the full continuum of care in a cost-effective, quality-focused, and patient-centered manner. Compliance with all applicable regulatory standards is required.

    Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

    Treatment Planning and Provision of Care:

    • Implement occupational therapy treatment plans.
    • Select appropriate treatment activities to help patients progress toward goals.
    • Revise goals and treatment plans in collaboration with patients and their families.
    • Provide ongoing education and training to patients and families.
    • Offer discharge instructions, follow-up care, and referrals to community resources as needed.
    • Serve as a resource for staff, families, and physicians on rehabilitation services and equipment.

    Patient Assessment:

    • Collaborate with physicians to establish and evaluate treatment programs, plans of care, goals, and discharge plans.
    • Develop a plan of care in partnership with the patient and/or family members.
    • Create a realistic discharge plan incorporating the goals of the patient and/or family.

    Documentation:

    • Document evaluations and treatment plans according to departmental guidelines.
    • Record each treatment session following departmental protocols.
    • Complete and submit family education, discharge, and other required documentation within facility and program guidelines.

    General Requirements:

    • Uphold ethical business practices and strive to perform with integrity and honesty.
    • Embrace diversity and work effectively as part of a team.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
    • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policies.
    • Follow the departmental dress code, including proper display of ID badge.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with team members, both verbally and in writing.
    • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-services, process improvement activities, and other required meetings.
    • Organize workload to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Use materials and equipment safely and cost-effectively.
    • Follow infection prevention protocols.

    Customer Service:

    • Lead the industry with vision, technology, innovation, and exceptional customer service.
    • Strive to make a positive difference in the lives of employees and patients.
    • Consistently apply AIDET principles in all interactions with patients.
    • Foster a positive and respectful environment for both patients and co-workers, promoting teamwork and collaboration.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of service recovery principles and apply them when necessary.

    Professional Development:

    • Participate in professional development and mandatory education activities.
    • Complete core and annual competencies within established departmental timelines.
    • Fulfill all educational requirements to maintain licensure, including additional training if desired.
    • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
    • Complete all mandatory hospital/system requirements.

    Additional Duties:

    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and the code of conduct.
    Required Minimum Education:
    • Master‘s or Bachelor‘s degree in Occupational Therapy.

    Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

    • Occupational Therapist licensure required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

    Required Minimum Experience:

    • No specific experience required.

    Required Minimum Skills:

    • Effective communication skills.
    • Strong customer service focus and team-oriented mindset.
    • Basic computer skills.
