Job Summary
We are hiring a Travel Specialist to manage domestic and international travel for a defense research organization. This role requires deep expertise with the Defense Travel System (DTS), Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), and Government Travel Charge Card (GTCC) policies.
Key Responsibilities (Narrative)
As a Travel Specialist, you will coordinate travel arrangements for Government personnel, including preparing travel authorizations and vouchers in DTS and ensuring they comply with applicable travel regulations and organizational policies. You will help travelers understand requirements, gather needed information, and ensure that all documentation is accurate and complete.
You will research and interpret travel regulations and policies, provide guidance on allowable expenses, and support resolution of travel‑related questions or issues. You will review both manual and system‑generated travel vouchers and authorizations for accuracy and compliance, and help correct any discrepancies.
Your responsibilities will also include administering aspects of the GTCC program, supporting users with card‑related questions, and monitoring for compliance with established rules. You will process passport and visa applications as needed and research foreign clearance requirements to support international travel. You will work with commercial ticketing offices and leverage GSA City Pair fares where appropriate. Throughout, you will maintain a strong customer‑service focus while ensuring adherence to policy and efficient travel processing.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
High school diploma.
Experience:
4–6+ years of experience as a travel clerk or travel specialist supporting Government travel.
Demonstrated experience with DTS, JTR, GTCC policies, and foreign clearance processes.
Security Clearance:
Secret clearance or higher, with eligibility for additional access as required by the work location.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of Department of Defense travel rules and processes.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with DTS and related travel systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience supporting DARPA or other Department of Defense agencies in travel planning.
Experience processing international and OCONUS travel.
