    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Facilitate law-related education (LRE) curriculum to justice involved and/or at-promise youth
    • Prepare for the program sessions by reviewing weekly lessons.
    • Make weekly contacts to assigned youth in LRE program sessions.
    • Attend required trainings, field trip, and the recognition ceremony.
    • Inform Law Program Site Manager of any issues at site.

    TIME COMMITMENT:

    • Facilitators will prepare for the program session by reviewing the lesson prior to the session.
    • Facilitators will arrive to the site at least 15 minutes early and stay for 30 minutes after the session to debrief.
    • Facilitators will reach out to assigned youth at least one time each week prior to the program session.
    • Facilitators will be available to transport youth to and from program sessions and/or for field trips, as necessary

    TRAINING/SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS CAN EXPECT:

    • 27 hours of orientation and training.
    • Optional facilitator support meetings 2 times per semester
    • Regular contact with a Lead Facilitator and the Law Program Site Manager for personalized feedback, advice, and encouragement. Contact by phone, email, and in person, according to your preference.

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

    • Volunteers must be a minimum of 21 years old and COVID-19 vaccinated.
    • Volunteers must pass a criminal background check through the DOJ and FBI.
    • Must attend New Facilitator training sessions.
    • Must have a desire to connect with at-promise youth and youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system.
    • Must have a willingness to engage in tough conversations about race while understanding the realities of police relations in the Black and Brown communities.
    • Must possess strong listening skills and ability to quickly process discussions in real time.
    • Able to accept constructive criticism from youth, volunteers, and FLY staff.
    • Have access to reliable transportation a plus, but not required.

    VOLUNTEER BENEFITS:
