    Position: 0.6 - 1.0 FTE CTE JROTC Army Instructor

    Location: West Valley School District

    Purpose Statement:

    The JROTC Army Instructor plans, teaches, and evaluates instruction in JROTC subjects with an enhanced focus on STEMintegration. This position provides comprehensive educational opportunities and extracurricular activities that develop character, leadership, and service learning. The instructor mentors JROTC cadets to reach their full potential as scholars, leaders, and athletes.

    Qualifications:
    • Military Background: Retired military NCO with honorable service ARNG/USAR (Actively Serving/TPU) - Same eligibility plus Letter of Recommendation from current Commander and current DA Form 5016 or NGB 23A. Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs: CNACI
    • Valid Washington State CTE Certifications:
      • JROTC (V280300) -AND- STEM (V141000)
      • Consideration may be given to applicants who can verify 6,000 hours of required experience for the needed OSPI VCodes. Submit documentation or an explanation of the required work experience with the application. For additional information, see: OSPI CTE Cert or VCode Chart. Applicants must complete CTE certification within 18 months
    • Previous related experience in an educational setting
    • STEM Integration: Demonstrated ability or willingness to integrate STEM concepts into military science curriculum and connect JROTC programming with technical education pathways.
    • Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
    • Dynamic, student-involving, hands-on instruction style.
    Job Description:
    • Collaborate with other JROTC instructors, instructing JROTC courses such as: Military History, Rifle Marksmanship, Archery, Drill, PT, and Crisis Response.
    • Manage military and school property with full accountability.
    • Co-advise and supervise West Valley's JROTC co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, including color guards, drill teams, field trips, and competitive events, hosting the annual Veteran's Day Assembly, fundraising activities, and more.
    • Informing cadets and families about Armed Forces scholarship opportunities with application assistance.
    • Fulfill CTE required duties, including, but not limited to: attending all advisory meetings, framework updates, OSPI requirements and paperwork, and partnering with local employers.
    • Maintain and develop Industry Recognized Credentials and dual credit agreements.
    • Utilize student assessment data to formulate instructional decisions.
    • Actively engage students in the learning process using interactive, problem-solving and research-based instructional methods.
    • Regularly incorporate choice and voice in instruction, assessment and performance.
    • Maintain a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
    • Provide differentiated instruction to meet diversified student learning needs.
    • Incorporate technology into the instructional process.
    • Create relationships/connections with students, staff and community members in order to create a more collaborative learning environment.
    • Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
    • Implement the requirements of I.D.E.A., Section 504, and A.D.A. in the education of students with disabilities.
    • Be willing to advocate for students who need someone to speak up for what they need to be successful.
    • Regularly assess student work, input grades, and contact parents regarding student performance/behavior in your classroom.
    • Actively participate in all workshops and training sessions that support building and district programs and goals, including the West Valley School District professional growth program (TAP/ACCEL).
