    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The City is looking for employees who are committed to public service and possess a willingness to be challenged. The Fire Department is currently recruiting for "FIREFIGHTER".

    SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

    Under the direct supervision of a Lieutenant, this position will perform technical work providing fire suppression, rescue operations, appropriate patient care, and public education programs. Firefighters are assigned to shiftwork; currently, a 48-hour shift with 96 hours scheduled off between tours. Duties are performed under emergency conditions and frequently involve considerable personal hazard while responding to fire alarms and emergency medical calls.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • 18 years of age
    • Valid Texas driver's license.
    • Current Basic Structural Firefighter certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection
    • Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic from the Texas Dept. of State Health Services.
    • Preferred Advanced EMT Certification from the Texas Dept. of State Health Services.
    • Must complete and pass each step of the selection process.

    The passing score is 70% or higher.

    Step 3: Agility – Location, Date, and Time TBA

    Applicant must successfully complete the Agility. (Note: No time requirement) Step 4: Panel Interview / Background Packet intake to take place – Date and Time TBA

    Final Steps: Conditional Job Offer, Background Investigation, and pre-employment physical and controlled substance screening

    Candidates who pass all of the above are placed in an eligibility (applicant) pool. This is not a guarantee of employment; however, the City of Richmond does make job offers from the applicant pool. Subsequently, if a conditional job offer is made to a candidate by the Fire Chief, the candidate must complete and pass a pre-employment controlled substance screening, physical examination, background check which may include criminal history report, driver's license verification, State finger print screening and/or credit history check before a final job offer is made by the Human Resources Department.
