    Fire Inspector

    The City of New Orleans is looking for a Fire Inspector. This entry-level position involves technical inspection and law enforcement work to ensure compliance with city fire prevention regulations and ordinances. The role includes activities to encourage the development and use of fire prevention methods, investigational work to determine the origins and causes of fires, and performance of other departmental investigations as directed by the Superintendent.

    To qualify for this position, you must meet either of the following criteria:

    • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalency Diploma and four (4) years of experience in fields such as fire prevention, firefighting, safety engineering, occupational safety, fire protection, engineering, architecture, building/housing inspection, drafting, designing buildings, or law enforcement. Sixty (60) semester hours of college credit may substitute for two (2) years of related experience.
    • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. A background check will be conducted, and candidates must become certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Fire Inspector I and obtain the Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certification from a Louisiana State approved Academy during the probationary period.

    The examination will consist of a written multiple-choice test and a qualifying test of writing skills. Additional tests may include a medical test, psychological/psychiatric evaluation, and a stress EKG.
