    Firefighter

    Salary Information: Starting salary between $64,219- $67,074 annually, based on experience. Additional $10,000 per year for those employed as Paramedics.

    This job is located in the Field Operations Division of the Orlando Fire Department (OFD) and is under the generalsupervision of the Company Commander. Firefighters will perform individually and/or as members of a firefighting team and will participate in fire suppression activities, including firefighting, rescue, first aid, ventilation, forcible entry, salvage, overhaul, and inspection practices. Firefighters will attend classroom and drill ground training sessions on a regular basis to continuously update their knowledge and skills required for effective work performance. Decisions are made with the guidance of a supervisor and on an individual level and have a direct effect on life and property. General job functions include (1) Firefighting Emergency, (2) Firefighting - Non-Emergency, (3) Emergency Medical Services, and (4) Work-Related Activities. Certified divers will participate in underwater search and rescue.

    Citizenship Required: Required

    High School Grad/GED: Required

    Valid FLORIDA Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required upon application. The license does not necessarily have to be a Florida driver's license upon initial application. However, a candidate must possess a Florida driver's license upon date of hire.

    Ability to Read/Speak English: Required

    Academy Certification: Required to be a certified firefighter in the state of Florida by the close of the application date. We do not accept National Registry Certifications for Firefighter.

    Necessary Certifications:

    • State of Florida Firefighter Certification is required by the close of the application date.
    • EMT/Paramedic Certification is required by the close of the application date. A candidate must specifically possess a state of Florida EMT or Paramedic certification upon being hired. We accept National Registry EMT and Paramedic certifications for testing purposes.
    • Successful completion of CPAT and NTN FireTEAM and PSSA Part 1 Testing*

    Candidates must submit a city of Orlando job application by July 10, 2026. Candidates must have passed FireTEAM exam via National Testing Network* (see IMPORTANT NOTE below) and CPAT exam within 12 months from the date a candidate submits their application. Certain candidates will be selected for additional screening. Selected candidates must also successfully complete interviews, polygraph exams, a background check, psychological exam and a medical exam. CPAT results from testing centers other than NTN will be accepted. If candidates have passed the CPAT exam via another entity other than NTN, you must upload documentation of your passing status to your online application.

    Candidates must also complete the Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) Part 1 with NTN. There is no minimum passing score for the PSSA, but it must be completed by the close of the job application. IMPORTANT NOTE: All candidates must complete FireTEAM and CPAT testing and the Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) Part 1 through the National Testing Network by July 10, 2026. If you have already completed FireTEAM and CPAT, your results must have been completed within twelve months of the date of application. If your results are older than 12 months from the date of application or you have never completed FireTEAM or CPAT, you will be required to schedule and complete your exams with NTN by July 10, 2026.
