    POSITION OVERVIEW

    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    This individual will serve as a field training officer (FTO) while leading in the coordination of the enforcement and implementation of adapted City of Houston ordinances, performs routine inspections of sites to enforce ordinances concerning high grass, weeds, junk motor vehicles and dangerous buildings, must have the ability to respond to inquiries from citizens, governmental officials and various other City departments, facilitate in abatements, may testify in court proceedings and or administrative hearings, performs special assignments as requested. May be required to attend public meetings as needed to represent the department/section.

    WORKING CONDITIONSThere are routine minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals. The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as computers or record boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Two (2) years of experience related to code enforcement inspection are required.

    MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
    Requires a code enforcement license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations TDLR.

    Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
    PREFERENCES

    **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
