  • Summary

At The Brisben Center, our mission is to provide temporary shelter and equip residents to resolve poverty and sustain housing. Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming 16,000 sq. ft. facility is a massive undertaking, and our Community Service Workers (CSWs) are vital to our daily operations!

We welcome individuals seeking to fulfill court-ordered or school-mandated community service hours. In this role, you will work behind the scenes to support our staff and residents by ensuring our facility remains organized, sanitized, and ready to serve our community.

    Key Responsibilities

As a CSW, you will assist with a variety of daily operational needs. Your tasks may include:

    • Facility Maintenance: Assisting with daily and weekly deep-cleaning checklists for communal spaces, including the Family Playroom, File Room, and storage areas.
    • Room Turnovers: Helping staff execute our 72-hour room reset protocol, which includes stripping beds, removing trash, and sanitizing hard surfaces to prepare rooms for incoming families.
    • Donation & Inventory Organization: Breaking down cardboard boxes, sweeping, and helping maintain order in our bulk storage and inventory rooms.
    • Event & Program Support: Assisting with pre-event setup and post-event cleanup for programs like our Nature Club.

What We Are Looking For & Program Expectations

Because we are a working shelter, all CSWs must adhere to strict professional guidelines.

    • Reliability & Punctuality: You must arrive on time for your scheduled shifts. An excess of three no-call/no-shows will result in immediate dismissal from the program.
    • Professional Conduct & Confidentiality: You must treat all clients, staff, and volunteers with respect. You are strictly prohibited from sharing any confidential information about our clients or facility.
    • Dress Code: You must wear closed-toed shoes and appropriate attire that you don't mind getting dirty. Pajamas and profanity are strictly prohibited.
    • Focused Work Ethic: Personal cell phones should be used in a limited capacity, though headphones for music are permitted as long as they do not impact your ability to follow directions.
    • Zero Tolerance Policy: Consumption or possession of alcohol, marijuana, or illegal drugs on-site is strictly forbidden.
