    Probationary Firefighter

    The City of Lubbock will accept applications for the Probationary Firefighter positions between Tuesday, March 31, 2026 through Friday, July 3, 2026. All applications for this exam are completed online and must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026.

    The Probationary Firefighter Entrance Exam will be given on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center located at 1501 Mac Davis Lane, Lubbock, TX at 8:30 a.m. All applicants should plan to arrive at 7:30 a.m.; doors will close at 8:30 a.m. (no exceptions). A valid, government-issued photo identification is required for admittance to the exam.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of the written exam; and not have reached your 36th birthday at the time of hire.
    • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be a citizen of the United States or a veteran with permanent legal resident status, honorably discharged with two years of service.

    All applicants who wish to receive Honorable Discharge Credit for service in the Armed Forces of the United States must provide proof of an Honorable Discharge (e.g., DD Form 214 Service 2, DD Form 214 Member 4, or DD Form 214 Service 7). Any discharge, by whatever name known, that includes language other than "Honorable Discharge" is not acceptable for this credit.

    Acceptable Documents include:

    • DD Form 214 indicating an Honorable Discharge from military service
    • Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Paramedic certification
    • Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Structural Firefighter (or higher) certification
    • Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) EMT-Basic or Advanced EMT certification

    The Entry Level Firefighter Exam is a general knowledge, multiple-choice exam. Candidates are allowed three (3) hours to complete the exam but may finish earlier. The test will identify those candidates who have the essential basic skills necessary to perform successfully as a Probationary Firefighter. YOU DO NOT NEED TO MEMORIZE ANY MATERIAL FOR THIS EXAM. The test consists of mathematics, reading comprehension, writing, reasoning, and map reading.     NOTE: SECTIONS OF THE APPLICATION MARKED IN RED DO NOT NEED TO BE COMPLETED. THIS INCLUDES: WORK HISTORY, CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES, SKILLS, AND REFERENCES.     *Pending Civil Service Commission approval.
