Job Description

Major Function: Under direction, the purpose of the position is to perform routine security work safeguarding Tax Collector employees, the general public and property from damage, loss or harm. Employees in this classification perform at entry professional level supporting safe, efficient and effective Tax Collector operations.

Examples of Duties

1. Assuming a regularly assigned physical location, perform all work in compliance with all laws, rules, and regulatory standards governing security enforcement operations.
2. Bear assigned firearm and hand weapons; follow all prescribed procedures in the use of force for the purpose of safeguarding the safety, health and protection of employees, the general public, facilities and property within the scope of responsibility.
3. Perform daily operational check of firearm.
4. Prohibit persons from entering the Tax Collector's office bearing a weapon, explosive materials, narcotic drugs or alcohol, confiscating any contraband articles.
5. Report observations, incidents or unusual conditions to supervising Enforcement Sergeant.
6. Detain suspects and accused offenders; contacts law enforcement if an arrest is to be made.
7. Maintain and enforces order in the Tax Collector's office.
8. Lead an orderly evacuation in the event of an emergency.
9. Answer questions from the public, and gives general information throughout the day.
10. Attend and participate in all required Defensive Tactics training and Firearms Certifications.
11. Attend meetings to keep current on trends in Security issues, operational changes and safety.
12. Evaluate any emergency or medical situations with customers or staff members that occur on Tax Collector premises. Contact emergency management/911 in the event that medical treatment is necessary. Monitor situation until customer/staff member has been released or transported by emergency management personnel.
13. Prepare Enforcement/Security reports including accident/incident reports.
14. Perform duties as assigned which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications -High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by a demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding security work within a high traffic, professional office environment; or the equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. Must possess a valid Class G. Statewide Firearm Permit and a Class D Security Officer License. Must obtain CPR Certification within 60 days of employment. Must possess a valid Florida Driver License. Must not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor which involves perjury or a false statement, regardless of withholding of adjudication or suspended sentence. Physical Demand Requirements: PHYSICAL DEMAND: MEDIUM -50 pound maximum lifting. Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 25 lbs. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear. Good eye sight for production or safety of self and others. Physical demands are in excess of light work. Physical agility is required in kneeling, bending, stooping, and reaching. Required to have clear vision at distances of 20 feet or more.
