    PRINCIPAL TECHNICIAN - SR. TECHNICIAN - Sensor Systems & NDE Technology Technician 18-01585 Who We Are: The Sensor Systems and Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Technology team is comprised of engineers, scientists, and technicians who develop sensor systems and inspection methodologies and perform and monitor inspections to assess the serviceability of a variety of structures from deep sea to deep space. Objectives of this Role: Perform inspection operations for multiple large-scale fabrication efforts for a variety of industries and application areas. Audit and monitor third-party inspection groups during inspection operations to ensure necessary certifications are met and procedures are followed. Develop code-compliant inspection procedures for the petrochemical, aerospace, pressure vessel, and nuclear power application areas. Perform conventional and novel inspection tasks in a variety of inspection methods Support research and development efforts that are the central mission of the Sensor Systems and NDE Technology Section. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: Interface with customers to identify NDE requirements, prepare and/or approve inspection procedures, coordinate and/or perform inspections, interpret inspection results, and prepare formal reports. Apply novel and innovative inspection methods and techniques and collect data. Maintain necessary qualifications for certification in multiple methods, including documentation of work experience. Maintain NDT inspection records in an organized manner. Acquire additional certifications and credentials as required for projects and career development. Assist in the creation of cost estimates in support of proposals, and work with engineers to improve inspection processes and techniques. Support SwRI quality and environment health and safety (EHS) directives and requirements. Requirements: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree in Nondestructive Testing, Engineering, Science or Technology, or related degree field with experience is preferred. Must currently meet the qualification requirements for Level II or III following ASNT SNT-TC-1A and/or NAS-410 in a minimum of two methods, including ultrasonic testing (UT). 5+ years: Experience in NDT is required. Experience and preferably certifications in advanced techniques (phased array, TOFD, automated inspection techniques, etc.) is desirable. Familiarity with production environments and maintenance programs in multiple industries such as power plants, pressure vessels, pipelines etc Experience preparing inspection procedures, includes those based on codes, standards and contractual documents is desired. Experience with MS. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required. Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. Must be able to work both within a team and individually with little direct supervision and direction. Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously is preferred. Willingness to travel occasionally in support of projects is required. A valid/clear driver's license is required. Special Requirements: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
