    Description

    The Intern - CIA provides administrative support such as basic correspondence, phone assistance, document handling, and guided data entry, while participating in a structured rotation through key departments. The intern observes and supports activities in Account Management, Sales, Accounting, Operations, and Compliance to gain learning focused exposure to agency workflows, client service processes, and the overall operations of an independent Property & Casualty insurance agency.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Participate in scheduled rotations with agency leadership, Producers, Account Managers, and Operations staff to learn departmental functions.

    2. Observe and support client service workflows, including claims intake, endorsements, quoting, and renewal review processes.

    3. Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing simple correspondence, organizing documents, and completing guided data entry assignments.

    4. Handle incoming calls under supervision by gathering information, routing calls, or documenting messages to support service workflows.

    5. Assist with updating communication logs, preparing basic reports, or supporting workflow documentation as part of project based assignments.

    6. Learn to navigate the agency management system by attaching documents, entering guided updates, and completing training exercises.

    7. Support introductory Personal Lines and Commercial Lines quoting activities, including gathering information and reviewing rating inputs.

    8. Participate in marketing and sales activities such as preparing submission packets or reviewing underwriting requirements.

    9. Assist Accounting and Operations with introductory tasks to understand Direct Bill vs. Agency Bill, client transactions, and compliance requirements.

    10. Attend team meetings, training sessions, and workflow reviews to gain a broad understanding of agency operations.

    11. Completes required BSA/AML training and other compliance training, as assigned.

    12. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

    13. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Education and Experience

    High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 0 - 6 months related experience and/or training.

    Communication Skills

    Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

    Critical Thinking Skills

    Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.
