Rice County is seeking a self-motivated individual looking for experience supporting our Elections processes for the 2026 Election. Election Judge positions are being offered throughout 2026 for ones interested in working with the Property Tax and Elections Department at Rice County prior to, on and after election days. The IRS treats election officials, including election judges, as W-2 employees for income tax purposes. Election judges are not "public employees" for purposes of the Public Employment Labor Relations Act ("PELRA"). Minn. Stat. 179A.03, subd. 14(2). The Election Judge supports critical government infrastructure by assisting the Property Tax & Elections Department with administering Federal, State, County and Local elections and maintaining accountability for ensuring elections are in compliance with election laws.
IMPORTANT: The IRS treats election officials, including election judges, as W-2 employees for income tax purposes. Election judges are not "public employees" for purposes of the Public Employment Labor Relations Act ("PELRA"). Minn. Stat. 179A.03, subd. 14(2).

Certifications: The incumbent must become certified as an Election Judge and complete absentee ballot board training upon hire. In order to comply with Minn. Stat. 204B.19 Subd. 5, you will be required to provide us, at the time of an interview, your political affiliation if you do not provide it on the supplemental question #3.
Hours: Temporary, flexible, including evenings and weekends.
