    The Department of Neurology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) in New Brunswick, NJ is seeking an accomplished physician-leader to serve as Division Chief of Stroke to join a dynamic and expanding program with clinical, academic, and research components.     FUNCTION:

    Participates in the clinical care of patients, principally those with cerebrovascular disorders, and serves as the Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:

    Administrative:

    1. Serves as Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center Care unit and an expert medical resource to the medical staff, other professionals and administration at RWJMS and RWJUH.
    2. Participates in the preparation for accreditation by The Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. This is an essential leadership component that works collaboratively with hospital leadership.
    3. Provides stroke care education and lectures to medical staff, health professionals, staff an patients.
    4. Coordinates and administers the thrombolytic treatment program.
    5. Provides leadership and counsel regarding the medical and clinical aspects of operations, including participation in policy development, policy compliance, professional and patient education and evaluation of emerging technologies. The Director of the Stroke Care program works closely with senior management and helps provide medical and clinical perspectives in organizational planning and oversight of related activities.
    6. Responsible for medical management of service/program; provides clinical expertise; monitors clinical indicators to determine if measurable standards are met; provides medical oversight, including development of goals, budgets, and operations.
    7. Responsible for planning and development, including emerging technologies related to programs and services and helps in the procurement of state of the art equipment when needed.
    8. Participates in committee meetings and provides support to committees and staff in policy development about medical and clinical issues and related requirements.
    9. Participates in the teaching mission of RWJMS to the extent determined in consultation with the Department Chair. This may include teaching and mentoring fellows in cerebrovascular disorders, teaching Neurology residents and rotating residents in the inpatient and outpatient settings and in small group seminars; teaching medical students in inpatient and outpatient setting, in small group seminars or in formal lectures in the pre-clinical setting.
    10. Participates in the community service responsibilities in such areas as providing neurological care for indigent patients and teaching or advising lay community groups in the area of cerebrovascular disorders according to a schedule to be determined in consultation with the Chair.
    11. Participates in the administrative tasks of the Department of Neurology, RWJMS and RWJUH This will include membership in standing or ad hoc departmental and institutional committees as determined in consultation with the Chair and according to RWJMS By-Laws; and attending departmental and institutional faculty meetings.
    12. Other duties as required.
    Clinical responsibilities for Neurointensivist:
    1. Primary medical management of neurological and neurosurgical patients needing intensive care as the physician of record; provide clinical expertise; monitor clinical indicators to determine if measurable quality standards are met.
    2. Responsible for direct and indirect (on-call) supervision of a multi-disciplinary clinical team, which may consist of advanced practice providers (APPs) including advanced practice nurses (APN) and physician assistants (PAs), and physician housestaff.
    3. Serve as collaborating physician for APPs.
    4. Maintain competency for performance and supervision of standard critical care procedures, at minimum including central venous catheterization, arterial catheterization, and lumbar puncture.
    5. Evaluate the appropriateness of transfer of patients from affiliated/outside hospitals for specialty care in conjunction with the transfer center while on duty.
    6. Participate in the teaching mission of RWJMS/RWJUH through clinical supervision and teaching of trainees, including fellows in critical care, vascular neurology, residents in neurology and neurosurgery, APP trainees, and students in the above disciplines.
    7. Meet and maintain requirements for medical staff membership at RWJUH
    Clinical responsibilities of a Vascular Neurologist:
    1. Primary or consultative management of vascular neurology patients during the hyperacute, acute and subacute phases of hospitalization including but not limited to hyperacute evaluation at stroke codes, thrombolytic administration, evaluation and coordination for endovascular intervention, and post treatment management.
    2. Management of primary stroke patient including all aspects of inpatient care.
    3. Oversee care provided by residents and APPs.
    4. Collaboration with multidisciplinary team including, but not limited to SW, CM, rehab, etc.
    5. Participation and engagement in ongoing and new research initiatives.


    Qualifications:
    • Board Certified in Neurology, with fellowship training in Stroke and Vascular Neurology.
    • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in an academic or major health system setting preferred.
    • NJ licensed or eligible for licensure
    • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, collaboration, and education
    • Commitment to innovation, equity, and continuous improvement in patient care delivery.

    The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work is $275,000 to $470,000 per year.

    The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position.
