    Maintenance Attendant (Part-Time)

    This recruitment is being held to establish an open eligible list to fill current and future Maintenance Attendant positions. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the City of Menifee.

    THE DEPARTMENT
    The Community Services Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents by delivering a wide range of recreational programs, services, special events, and maintenance efforts that foster community engagement, environmental stewardship, and lifelong learning. The department is organized into four key divisions. Community Services Administration oversees strategic planning, budgeting, and coordination across all service areas. Recreation Programs and Citywide Special Events offer inclusive activities and events that promote wellness, cultural enrichment, and social connection. The City Parks, Landscape, Facility Maintenance and Ranger Patrols division ensures that Menifee’s parks and public spaces are safe, clean, and welcoming through regular maintenance and patrol services. Lastly, the Solid Waste and Recycling Programs division supports sustainability through educational outreach, waste reduction initiatives, and recycling services. Together, these divisions reflect the department’s commitment to building a vibrant, connected, and environmentally conscious community.

    THE OPPORTUNITY
    The Maintenance Attendant position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, contributing to the upkeep and appearance of city streets, parks, and facilities. Under the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor, you will support a wide range of maintenance tasks, from landscaping and facility preparation to assisting skilled workers on various projects. This role provides valuable experience in public works, facility operations, and customer service while working in a dynamic, outdoor environment.

    The Maintenance Attendant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
    • Perform general maintenance tasks such as digging ditches, trenches, and potholes; loading and unloading dirt and materials.
    • Maintain landscaped areas by cutting weeds, raking, watering, and caring for plants, shrubs, and flowers.
    • Assist in preparing and maintaining athletic fields, including grading and shaping baseball diamonds.
    • Support building maintenance activities such as painting, moving furniture, laying or removing carpets, and assisting with minor repairs.
    • Assist skilled workers in various trades.
    • Prepare facilities for reservations by clearing debris, sweeping, pressure washing, and posting signage.
    • Operate City vehicles and equipment as assigned.


    MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    The ideal candidate will possess a High School diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a minimum of six (6) months of paid experience performing maintenance, landscaping, groundskeeping, facility upkeep, or similar manual labor duties, as well as experience providing basic customer service to the public.

    Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.

    Required Licenses and Certifications:
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a Valid California Driver’s License by the time of appointment.

    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk and talk or listen, use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or control; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USEDHand tools, light machinery, landscape equipment and tools; telephone; calculator; other modern office machines as necessary.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Successful candidates will be required to take and pass a medical examination, including drug, alcohol and tuberculin test screening, by City approved physician. Proof of current negative tuberculin test will be required prior to employment. In addition, the City of Menifee conducts a thorough background investigation prior to appointment.

    Environmental Elements

    Employees work in an environment with moderate noise levels, controlled and uncontrolled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

    Employees who are hired in a temporary, at will, seasonal, part-time position do not receive benefits other than those mandated by state and federal law. These benefits include paid sick leave(PSL)as well asparticipation in Medicare, Worker's Compensation.

    About Menifee

    The City of Menifee is located in southwestern Riverside County approximately 30 miles southeast of the City of Riverside, California. The city encompasses approximately 50 square miles with an overall population of 91,902.

    Interstate 215 traverses north and south through the center of Menifee, with existing community commercial areas located primarily along Newport, Bradley, and McCall Roads off of I-215.

    History of Menifee Roads

    In the 1940's many of the Menifee roads that you see today were given a "family name." These names could be traced back to an early settler of Menifee who had owned a property in a specific location. The list of Menifee roads has a unique history and is a part of Menifee’s culture today.

    Early Inhabitants

    The area was originally inhabited by the Luiseno and Pechanga Indian tribes, and in the 1700s, the area fell under the rule of the Spanish empire. The area was eventually annexed into the United States from Mexico in 1850 under California's statehood.

    Farming activity beginning in the mid-1800s was concentrated in the Menifee area. Mining activity began in the early 1880s with the discovery of a significant quartz lode by miner Luther Menifee Wilson. Menifee derived its name from that mining operation.

    Early Development

    Early development of the City of Menifee began with Sun City in the early 1960s as the concept of an active retirement community that was envisioned by Del Webb, a major building contractor from Phoenix, Arizona. Sun City is centrally located within the City of Menifee with a mix of residential and commercial activity.

    The Menifee area began to grow further in 1989 with the master-planned community of Menifee Lakes and continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in California. Quail Valley is a semi-rural residential community in the northwestern section of the city, and Romoland is a residential and commercial community located in the northeastern section of the city.

    Schools

    Elementary and middle school education in the City of Menifeeare provided by the Menifee Union School District and the Romoland School District. High school education is provided by the Perris Union High School District. The City of Menifee is also home to Mt. San Jacinto College. The Menifee campus serves the TemeculaMurrieta, and Menifee area.

    Incorporation of the City

    On June 3, 2008, the residents of the communities encompassing the City of Menifee voted to incorporate Menifee into Riverside County's 26th city. The new City of Menifee was officially established on October 1, 2008.
