Description:Jefferson County is seeking a Building Inspection Supervisor to join the Development & Transportation Department.
The
Building Inspection Supervisor leads daily inspection operations for the Building Safety Division by supervising, mentoring, and training inspection staff; assigning and reviewing work; conducting inspections; and partnering with customers to resolve complex field issues and ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong technical knowledge of building inspection practices and codes, proven supervisory and mentorship experience, and a commitment to operational excellence and customer service. This individual is self-directed, solutions-focused, and able to identify challenges, improve processes, and work closely with peer supervisors to promote consistency, communication, and continuous improvement across the division and county-wide.
About Jeffco’s Building Safety Division: The Building Safety Division works every day to serve Jefferson County citizens, contractors, engineers, and architects by providing customer-focused services in building permits, plan review, and inspections. SCHEDULE : This position typically works a traditional Monday-Friday schedule from 7: 00 a.m. to 3 :00 p.m., with responsibilities performed both in the field and in-office. Alternative schedules, including a 4-day workweek, may be considered and negotiated with the Hiring Manager based on operational needs. This is primarily an in-office position with field responsibilities as needed.
COMPENSATION : Total Base Pay Range: $ 95,593.89 - $ 124,272.06 - $ 152,950.23 USD Annual
The posted salary range reflects the full earning potential for this position over time. Starting pay will be based on a review of the candidate’s education, experience, skills, and internal equity considerations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Provide technical guidance and support to field inspectors and serve as liaison between County inspectors and customers, as needed, to resolve complex field issues and project challenges.
- Interpret and apply building codes; support development, revision, and adoption of County code supplements; participate in code development, standardization, enforcement initiatives, and related committees; provide technical and legislative support as needed; and deliver clear guidance on inspection procedures and code compliance.
- Respond to and resolve customer inquiries related to codes and inspection processes in a timely manner , coordinating with other departments or agencies as appropriate to ensure effective service delivery.
- Develop, implement, and refine inspection policies and procedures; ensure alignment and coordination between inspection, plan review, and administrative operations; and support strategic planning efforts for the division in partnership with leadership.
- Develop and maintain inspection resources, including policies, training materials, guides, and customer handouts; train staff on County technology platforms and ensure accurate , timely documentation of inspections and field activities.
- Perform administrative and operational duties including reviewing and approving timecards and Workday transactions, and managing the Division vehicle fleet.
- Supervise assigned staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, coaching, evaluations, corrective action, and ongoing development; communicate goals and expectations; ensure adherence to County policies and procedures; and resolve complex personnel and operational issues.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience :
Nine (9) years of relevant work experience, including s ix ( 6) years as an Inspector or Inspection Supervisor and three (3) years of experience in construction or related field.
Education :
High School Diploma or GED
License /
Certificat ion s :
International Code Council (ICC) certifications required , including seven (7) total from any combination of the following disciplines:
- Building: Residential Inspector, Building Inspector
- Electrical: Residential Electrical Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector
- Plumbing: Residential Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector
- Mechanical: Residential Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector
- Specialty: Fuel Gas Inspector, Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner, Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, Fire Inspector I or II
Substitutions and equivalencies may include:
- ICC Building Official certification (equivalent to two certifications)
- Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician license (electrical inspection equivalency)
- Colorado Journeyman or Master Plumber license (plumbing inspection equivalency)
- Equivalent legacy certifications considered on a case-by-case basis

- Strong administrative and operational management skills (e.g., supervising staff, recruitment, scheduling, approvals, reporting)
- Ability to think critically, solve problems, and implement practical solutions in the field
- Experience with the AMANDA Permitting, Compliance & Licensing Enterprise software
- Tech Savvy with the ability to navigate Microsoft Office suite, and advocate for new software or technology
