    Position Title:Environmental Division Intern
    Department: Environmental Services

    Location: Palm Desert, California

    Hours Required: Part-time, [20-40 hours/week] (flexible scheduling available)

    Compensation:$16.90/hour

    Essential Functions

    Duties of the Environmental Divisions Intern will include a broad array of support to professional staff supporting CVWD’s environmental compliance efforts, including:

    Assisting CVWD’s Field Biologist
    • Creating GIS Maps and Polygons to track projects and survey buffers
    • Calibration and organization of YSI water quality field meters
    • Maintenance of field monitoring equipment
    • Monitoring checklists

    Assisting CVWD's Environmental Staff
    • Updating the recipient mailing list
    • Gathering site photos for projects
    • Creating a project master list and file organization
    • Permit and invoice tracking

    Knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred for the Environmental Division Intern include a background in environmental regulations and/or the natural environment, data collection, ArcGIS, XCEL, and MS Word.
    This is a part-time, non-benefited position of a limited duration. This position provides opportunity for incumbents with an interest in pursuing a career in government, to learn about “Special District” functions and gain experience by completing tasks and special assignments related to the program area. Assignments are intended to both help the District meet its business objectives as well as provide the Intern with exposure to governmental projects, programs, and processes.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Students should either be junior level or above as an undergraduate student, or graduate student. An internship may also be granted if graduation from university has occurred within one year or less.
    • Students/graduates should be available to work an average of 20 hours per week.
    • May only participate in the internship for up to two semesters/quarters.
    • An internship may only be for either the summer or school year.
    • Interns must provide copy of transcripts that include college level, or proof of graduation with the last year.
