    Parks & Recreation Department, Facilities Maintenance Division
    Pay Range: starting at $22.61 per hour
    Work Location: 3515 NE 33rd Terrace
    Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    What you'll do
    • Perform a wide range of maintenance and repair work, including light electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, fabrication, fencing installation and repair, asphalt placement, concrete pouring and finishing, and graffiti removal to keep park facilities safe, functional, and welcoming.
    • Operate equipment such as tractors, skid loaders, bucket trucks, flatbed two-ton trucks, and tandem dump trucks to support maintenance, construction, and hauling activities across park locations.
    • Perform lake maintenance to help maintain safe, clean, and accessible recreational environments.
    • Climb ladders and use power and manual hand tools to complete repairs and maintenance tasks efficiently and safely.
    • Assist with general construction projects, playground repairs, hauling materials, snow operations, and other assigned duties to support year-round Parks & Recreation operations.
    • Apply experience operating light construction equipment to complete assigned work accurately and on schedule.

    • Repairs and maintenance tasks are completed efficiently with minimal rework or downtime.
    • Equipment and tools are used properly and cared for to extend service life and reduce costs.
    • Playgrounds, buildings, and public spaces are safe, clean, and ready for public use.
    • Supervisors and team members can rely on you during routine work and seasonal or emergency operations.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRES
    • Two (2) years of experience as a skilled worker in building and mechanical repair work in a relevant trade (HVAC, boilers, hydraulics, pumps and motors etc.).
    • An additional related technical education certificate or diploma may be substituted for one year experience.
    • Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.
    • May be required to obtain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A, B, or C issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period. (Appropriate CDL will be determined by the department).
    • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.
    • Department requires CDL license to be obtained within the first 6 months of hire.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
