What You'll Do
- Supervise and coordinate the functions and operations of an assigned work unit.
- Assist in the administration of agency operations and coordinate specialized programs as directed.
- Assist in the development, installation, and execution of agency policies and procedures.
- Assist a division head in the administration of the division to which assigned; participate in and supervise the performance of routine operational tasks; suggest, for the benefit of general policy changes, those operational defects which should be remedied.
- See to the fulfillment of administrative detail; perform special assignments and submit reports based on such assignments; consult administrative superiors on matters of general policy.
- Study and develop revised procedures for the fulfillment of routine activities; receive difficult complaints; offer information to interested persons and groups; prepare correspondence.
- Analyze revenues and expenditures; review budget estimates and assist in the determination of appropriations to be recommended by a superior; analyze divisional procedures in an attempt to conserve funds.
- Conduct surveys and collect information on operational and administrative problems; analyze findings, make reports, evaluate methods and procedures, and recommend changes.
- Perform a variety of tasks involving liaison with other departments, agencies, and groups; represent the department in meetings and conferences involving city officials and public and private groups.
- Assist in the preparation of long-range planning studies on specialized management problems.
- Confer with persons in person or by telephone requesting service or making complaints on matters of general importance to the department; dispose of cases handled in accordance with established departmental policies and regulations.
- Maintain numerous records and make reports as required.
- Perform related duties as required.
Technical Skills Considerable Knowledge of
- The principles and practices of public administration or business administration.
- The principles and practices of office management and office equipment used.
- Research methods and techniques and methods of report presentation.
Working Knowledge of
- The rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the organizational unit to which assigned.
- The principles and techniques employed in computerization of information.

Qualifications
REQUIRES:- An accredited Bachelor's degree
- OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience to include professional experience in the development and/or operation of administrative systems, programs, policies and practice.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
