    Job Description:

    Quality Specialist

    Purpose:

    Under general supervision, this position assists with supporting quality assurance, continual improvement, and risk mitigation activities for business units within the organization.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Assists with projects related to the development or improvement of organizational programs, processes, and systems.
    • Uses quality assurance methodologies to assist with current state analysis assessments.
    • Assists with continuous improvement projects for business units within the organization.
    • Assists with risk mitigation evaluations to improve organizational performance.
    • Assists with assessments of organizational systems and processes.
    • Assists with organizational change efforts.
    • Assists with the development and implementation of continual improvement training activities.
    • Supports the organizations quality center of excellence.


    Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of continual improvement methodologies.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the job, plus one (1) year of experience related to the job.
    • Lean Six Sigma Certification may substitute for required experience.

    None.

    Notes to Candidate:

    This position is responsible for the daily auditing, interpretation, and correction of NERIS incident reports to ensure accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with federal and state reporting requirements. The role serves as one of the department's primary subject matter experts for NERIS data standards and engages directly with Operations personnel each day to resolve errors, clarify reporting requirements, and support accurate documentation practices. In addition to its core quality-assurance responsibilities, this position assists with designing, developing, and delivering training to Operations sworn staff to reinforce reporting standards and support continuous improvement. In addition to daily quality assurance activities, the position monitors NERIS data quality trends and maintains dashboards and data visualizations that support departmental awareness and decision making.

    This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, the ability to communicate clearly with Operations personnel.     Salary Range: $62,280.00 - $77,850.00

    Days and Hours:

    Monday - Friday.
    8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    Hours may vary due to operational needs.

    Telework: This position is primarily an on-site role due to the daily interaction required with Operations personnel and the nature of the work performed. Limited telework may be considered in the future in accordance with departmental needs, performance, and City telework policies; however, telework is not guaranteed and should not be assumed as a condition of employment.

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts. The Mayor and Council Members may serve in their respective seats for four years with a maximum of two consecutive terms.
