As an Enterprise System Engineer, you'll provide innovative, operational engineering and support for our software-defined data center, which is designed to enrich the lives of our citizens. We are looking for someone with experience in end-to-end management of systems and VMware based virtual machines. Your work will be hands-on, where you will design, develop, and integrate complex systems in an enterprise environment, supporting over 14,000 users across 56 departments. Education Bachelor's degree in Technology, Computer Science, or a related field OR Experience in system engineering/administration may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Our Preferred Candidate has Three (3) years of experience in system engineering/administration Proficiency in GlobalSCAPE EFT Experience in Certificate Management Essential Job Tasks The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position. Creates technology solutions that meet the needs and expectations of our customers Ensures appropriate resource management by maintaining expert-level administration and optimization of hosts and servers Crafts custom scripts, allowing for greater automation and supports and administers storage and virtual infrastructure by standardizing and automating processes and monitoring tools Installs and configures operating systems, software, and hardware components and documents the design, maintenance, and support procedures for routine tasks Conducts root-cause analysis for service interruptions and establishes preventative measures Manages and monitors all infrastructure and systems installations, including configuration, testing, and maintenance Implements and maintains backup, security, and redundancy strategies and enterprise server class software and hardware Assures adherence to departmental Service Level Agreements and Standard Operating Procedures Provides on-call support based on a rotation and applies necessary patches during the established monthly weekend patch window Interfaces with appropriate individuals, which includes contractors and customers both within and external to the IT department Working Conditions The job requires participation in a 24X7 on-call rotation that requires addressing critical issues at various locations throughout Maricopa County. Work is done primarily in an office setting in a high volume, fast-paced environment. It requires long periods of sitting while completing computer activities. Travel to and from job-related locations is required both during and outside the scheduled workday, subject to county policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on county business. Selection Procedure The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources. All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation. A background investigation is conducted on a current employee who changes to a Safety Sensitive Position or one having the potential for serious adverse impact on the integrity or efficiency of the County. These requirements do not pertain to employees of elected officials who undergo background investigation processes administered through their respective offices. Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on relevant experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
