    Job Description

    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of the State Parks Region 3 Natural Resources Coordinator, this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for future positions in natural resource conservation, management, and stewardship. Duties may include: fieldwork in habitat restoration and vegetation management projects (primarily herbicide application) at Inks Lake State Park, baseline flora or fauna surveys, periodic participation in restoration and management work across Region 3 (central Texas) State Parks and State Natural Areas, GIS data collection and mapping, and cross-training activities in park operations. Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate within the last 6 months.

    Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

    Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

    Experience :

    None required.

    Licensure :

    Must possess a valid State driver's license.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge in general of Texas State Parks.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers or leaders while work on projects or assignments.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Internship duration is approximately 400 hours, not to exceed August 31, 2025.

    Work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.

    May be required to work holidays and weekends, depending on intern assignment.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Required to travel 10%.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
