The pool is open year round, heated to a comfortable 80 degrees, and is 50 meters in length. The pool also boasts heated changing rooms and showers. What you will be doing: Under supervision, Lifeguard/Swim Instructors perform a variety of duties for the purpose of providing for water safety at Concord Community Pool. This includes organizing, coordinating, conducting, and instructing courses in water safety as well as supervision of the Concord Community Pool. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I is distinguished from the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor II in that the II performs duties independently. Senior Lifeguard/Swim Instructors perform additional leadership duties, including scheduling and training of other lifeguards. Overtime/Compensatory Time: All unit employees shall be compensated at a rate of time and one-half for all hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours per workweek. Recurrent Hourly Lifeguards may request compensatory time off subject to approval by the appointing authority. They may accumulate a maximum of eight (8) hours of compensatory time at the employee’s option. An additional sixteen (16) hours of compensatory time may accumulate with management approval. Use of compensatory time is subject to management approval on a request-by-request basis. Special Pay: All unit employees shall receive a pay advance of two pay steps and 5% of their base pay for obtaining their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Ensures a safe environment by communicating with and taking direction from aquatics supervisory personnel related to lifeguard rotations, ratios, completion of daily operational and cleaning duties, checking safety equipment, water testing and ensuring proper chemistry balance and clarity. Responsible for all aspects of opening and closing procedures. Guards all swim areas and enforces rules and safety regulations. Monitors weather conditions and works with supervisory personnel concerning unsafe conditions. Completes required daily paperwork. Assists with comprehensive swim lesson programs, if applicable. Effectively responds to emergency situations and performs lifesaving procedures. Establishes and maintains a good public relations image with guests through communications, positive interactions and consistent enforcement of all policies and procedures. Disseminates and promotes Parks & Recreation program information and directs guests to proper locations. Resolves administrative concerns by applying appropriate policies, procedures and interactions with staff and guests.
