    The Plant Operations Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Water Department's facilities, which include:
      ◦ Five water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 512 MGD
      ◦ A 166 MGD wastewater treatment facility
      ◦ Numerous pump stations, lift stations, flow transfer stations, and meter stations

    The Plant Operations Engineer - Water/Wastewater Engineer in this role will support the development and implementation of initiatives aimed at improving water and wastewater treatment facilities. This includes optimizing treatment processes and enhancing system reliability. The engineer will work closely with operations and maintenance staff to identify issues, develop practical solutions, and collaborate on design efforts.

    Projects you may be a part of include:
      ◦ Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility (166 MGD): Lead the rehabilitation of odor control systems-from in-house design to construction and commissioning-improving air quality and operational performance.
      ◦ Mary's Creek Water Reclamation Facility: Support the development of a state-of-the-art greenfield membrane bioreactor plant. Use process modeling to help meet ambitious nutrient discharge limits and protect local waterways.
      ◦ Water Treatment Plants: Collaborate with plant staff to optimize filtration systems through media surveillance, backwash strategies, and performance enhancements.

    Minimum Qualifications:
      ◦ Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or related field.
      ◦ Four (4) years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience as a registered professional engineer, including two (2) years performing project management that includes design and contract administration of water and wastewater projects.
      ◦ Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
        ◦ If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as Professional Engineer within the State of Texas within six months of employment.

      ◦ Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Texas driver's license.

    Preferred Qualifications:
      ◦ Working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes.
      ◦ Basic knowledge of (or interested in learning) hydraulic modeling software such as InfoWater, InfoWorks, WaterGEMS and treatment process modeling (GPS-X).
      ◦ Basic knowledge of (or is interested in learning) computerized maintenance management systems, drafting, ArcGIS mapping, or SCADA systems.

    The Plant Operations Engineer - Water/Wastewater job responsibilities may include:
      ◦ Developing Technical Specifications: Craft detailed specifications to support the procurement of new equipment that enhances treatment efficiency and improves the reliability of facility operations and maintenance.
      ◦ Leading In-House Design Projects: Design improvements for treatment plants and distribution facilities, and manage the full project lifecycle-including procurement, construction oversight, and startup coordination.
      ◦ Providing Technical Expertise: Serve as a trusted technical advisor to Plant Operations, offering insights and solutions to support process optimization and continuous improvement.
      ◦ Managing Capital Projects: Oversee capital delivery projects through design and construction phases, ensuring alignment with operational goals, regulatory requirements, and long-term infrastructure planning.
      ◦ Distribution System: Use hydraulic modeling to support operations in evaluating system shutdowns, improving water quality, and identifying operational enhancements across the distribution and collection systems.
      ◦ Capital Delivery: Manage the design and construction of critical infrastructure, including pump stations, lift stations, and treatment plant expansions. Ensure projects are delivered efficiently and aligned with long-term system goals
