    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    READ - IMPORTANT TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENT:

    A copy of a current college transcript, ISSUED FROM THE REGISTRAR with a signature and/or school watermark, must be attached to the application at time of submission. The transcript must show current GPA, credits, and current enrollment or recent graduation date.

    DEGREE PLANS OR GRADES FROM A STUDENT SELF-SERVICE PORTAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Omission of a transcript will be the basis for disqualification.

    International degrees must be accompanied with an evaluation of the comparable academic qualification. There are several associations related to degree evaluations that can be contacted to obtain the required documentation (i.e. Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), etc.).

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of the Superintendent, or designee, this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for future positions in park operations, such as: management, interpretation/education, administration, maintenance, resource management and protection, law enforcement, etc. Responsible for performing a complete range of tasks to experience all the aspects of park administration, operations and management. Duties may include, but are not limited to, natural and cultural resource management; facility, grounds and equipment maintenance management; interpretation and education programming and management; customer service, fee collection, revenue control and fiscal accountability; marketing and promotional programming; park patrols to include visitor contact and law enforcement observation. Performs special projects/assignments and attends selected training programs to enhance the overall working knowledge and skills related to operational and management activities. Internship will also include a special project to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern, to meet both site needs and intern's educational and development. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate within the last 6 months.

    Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

    Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

    Experience :

    None required.

    Licensure :

    Must possess a valid State driver's license.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge in general of Texas State Parks.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers or leaders while work on projects or assignments.

    Skill in managing several projects simultaneously.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Skill in working as a member of a team

    Skill in exercising leadership qualities

    Skill in with civic or community engagement.

    Skill in meeting deadlines.

    Ability to prepare reports.

    Ability to provide quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities

    Ability to communicate effectively with the public utilizing written oral and visual means

    Ability to handle cash and account for revenue collected.

    Ability to perform general maintenance.

    Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.

    Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as necessary.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
