      • Position Summary
      • Temporary hourly-intermittent position available on or after January 6, 2025 in Financial Services. Appointment will be made for one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment based on budget, department needs, and job performance.

        Under the general supervision, the incumbent will communicate university policies to faculty, staff, and the public, seek clarification when necessary, review data for accuracy, maintain financial aid records, handle monetary transactions, prepare billings and past-due notices, applie holds, late fees, and cancellations, post information to journals and ledgers, analyze transactions for write-offs, compile data for financial reports, balance accounts, create and update spreadsheets, run queries, recommend web content updates, assist with procedure modifications, enter data, review computer reports, and participate in testing financial software for upgrades and implementations.

        This is the journey-level classification in the series. Incumbents work independently and exercise initiative and judgment in making decisions consistent with standard practice and established guidelines.

        This position will provide technical support to organizational units responsible for receiving and disbursing university and/or auxiliary funds and recording financial transactions (e.g., accounts payable, accounts receivable, student finance, investments and special projects, trust and general accounting units.

      • Job Duties
      • Duties include but are not limited to:
        • Apply accounting procedures to analyze and resolve basic accounting problems.
        • Review data for accuracy and completeness, making correcting entries as needed.
        • Maintain financial aid records.
        • Prepare billings, past due notices, and process cancellations.
        • Post information to journals, registers, and ledgers.
        • Analyze and record transactions for write-off.
        • Balance and reconcile assigned accounts.
        • Create and maintain spreadsheets, including entering, revising, sorting, and creating tables.
        • Assemble and compile data used in the generation of financial reports and/or analysis.
        • Review and recommend content updates to web pages.
        • Modify, run, and export queries.
        • Enter codes and data into the computer and review computer reports for accuracy.
        • Provide input to the modification and documentation of established procedures based on precedent and university policies.
        • Communicate established university policies and procedures to faculty, staff, and the general public.
        • Refer individuals to the appropriate staff member for more extensive interpretation when necessary.
        • Obtain clarification from others for more extensive interpretation when necessary.
        • Use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, and query tools.
        • Operate integrated financial systems and/or records management systems.
        • Assist with testing financial software for upgrades and implementations, including transaction/data entry and data output testing.
        • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.

        • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas/departments withing functional area/departments as needed.

      • Minimum Qualifications
      • Education : Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
        Experience : Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the required knowledge and abilities.
      • Preferred Qualifications
        • Prior CSU or higher education experience.
        • Prior experience using database programs/automated accounting systems such as PeopleSoft, CASHNet cashiering or other related software.
        • Bilingual in Spanish (speak, read and write).
        • One (1) year of experience working with student financial accounting records.
      • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
        • Thorough knowledge and understanding of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices.
        • Ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards.
        • Ability to compute and post numbers rapidly and accurately.
        • Ability to maintain files and records; identify, trace, and correct errors.
        • Ability to follow directions; interpret and apply written rules and regulations.
        • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
        • Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment in responding to others.
        • Ability to use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems (such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid).
        • Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
        • Ability to apply accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems.
        • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.
        • Ability to apply problem solving techniques in finding solutions to basic accounting problems.
        • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
        • Ability to work independently.
        • Ability to make sound decisions and recommendations regarding accounting activities.
      • Special Conditions
        • On-call position, required to be reachable by phone or text.
        • May be required to work after-hours, evenings, or weekends.

      • Salary Range
      • Anticipated salary will be $22.34 to $24.57 per hour. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full range: $22.34 - $37.09 per hour.)
