The Position

Transportation Technicians perform a variety of technical duties related to traffic and roadway characteristics on State highways; install traffic monitoring devices; perform minor repairs on traffic control and monitoring equipment, and compile and maintain detailed records and information.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This position is located within the Planning/Traffic Information Division, Carson City. As lead person, collect Automatic Vehicle Classification (AVC) data. Responsible for keeping field notes, documenting unusual traffic characteristics, and documenting any failures of monitoring equipment. Schedule statewide traffic control for AVC installation and removal. Install and remove traffic control as required. The incumbent must keep abreast of updates to the Traffic Monitoring System (TMS), Traffic Monitoring Guide (TMG), traffic monitoring devices, field manuals, and data collection schedules. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of general labor or semi-skilled experience which included the operation of tools and equipment and/or responsibility for a delivery route requiring the operation of a vehicle and determining locations of delivery sites. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. This position has a 75% travel requirement to include traveling to rural Nevada. Additional Position Criteria Describe your experience with data collection and analyzing data. Describe your experience with using Word, Excel, or any other computer programs. Describe your experience using tools This job requires you to work outdoors including on the road at times.
