Job Description and Duties

The Native American and Tribal Affairs (NATA) section counsels and represents the Governor, the Attorney General, and other state agencies on a variety of Native American and tribal issues, including negotiations for tribal-state class III gaming compacts, civil and criminal jurisdiction on tribal lands, fee-to-trust land acquisitions, tribal cultural resource protection, civil litigation, government-to-government consultation, and other matters involving legal relationships between Native American organizations and the State. NATA also represents and advises state agencies and officials on gambling issues in general, such as lotteries, sweepstakes, cardroom regulatory compliance, and proposed new forms of gambling. The DAG Supervisor will have the responsibility to supervise workloads for all mission-critical activities; including evaluating the performance of subordinate attorneys and paralegals, providing training to subordinate attorneys and paralegals, handling general administrative matters, and actively participating in the interview and selection process for subordinate attorneys and paralegals. The DAG Supervisor will also perform the most difficult, complex, and sensitive legal work of the section, including trials, writs, appeals, administrative hearings, and investigations requiring the highest level of independent judgment.

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on DOJ's current telework policy. While DOJ supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises.
