    The School of Nursing at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an on-going basis for our Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Field Study Instructor pool of part-time lecturers.

    This is a Pool Ad for the following courses: NURS 583, NURS 533C, NURS 535C, and NURS 539C.

    These are supervisory courses; each student is placed with a clinical preceptor. The faculty in this position will provide 10-15 hours of supervision per course, inclusive of four (4) face-to-face group supervisory sessions per semester, led by the PHMNP Program Coordinator. Faculty also conduct a minimum of two (2) on site visits with the student and the preceptor.

    Applicants will use effective face-to-face instruction and assessment techniques to promote students’ successful achievement of course student learning outcomes, based on the Nurse Practitioner program learning outcomes. Specific student learning outcomes are listed in each syllabus.

    Responsibilities of the Clinical Supervisory Faculty

    Duties include but are not limited to:
    Provide instruction, as directed by the PMHNP Program Coordinator, and consistent with the syllabus, in a clear and engaging manner that is appropriate to student experience and expertise, to assist them in meeting course learning outcomes and completing required clinical hours. Model professional nursing behavior and communication at all times. Provide contact information to preceptor. Ensure that the preceptor has received and understands the Graduate Preceptor Guidelines Handbook, Graduate Program Preceptor Profile, course syllabus, and the Preceptor Clinical Evaluation Form. Attend a minimum of two clinical site visits/semester. These visits are on-site and should include time with the student and preceptor for evaluation purposes. Attend and contribute to the four (4) group supervisory sessions. Use clinical objectives as outlined on the syllabus and Faculty Evaluation of Student Performance to document the students’ progress and successful completion of clinical competencies. Communicate with the student’s preceptor to assess student progress. Provide immediate consultation and/or support of the preceptor when needed or when problems are reported Collect mid-term and final Preceptor Evaluation of Student Performance from each student. Collaborate with the student to complete the Student Evaluation of Preceptor online survey at the end of the semester. Notify the PMHNP Program Coordinator if a student is not progressing as needed. Utilize computer and application-based technologies as required to complete instructional and assessment duties. Includes using the assigned Cougar Course. Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accord with the university and school requirements and deadlines. Communicate effectively with the PMHNP Program Coordinator to resolve issues or concerns; work effectively as part of the overall faculty team demonstrating positive and collaborative interpersonal relations to meet student needs. Attend faculty meetings. Complete all SoN orientation requirements and respond to administrative requests and inservice requirements in a timely manner. Maintain professional practice knowledge base and skills needed to instruct learners in contemporary nursing practice for assigned course. Collaborate with Simulation team as directed during students' simulation experience. Complete annual performance evaluation per university requirements. Other duties may include assisting the SoN with course and/or program revision/development, assisting with research, and participating in committees as an active member of the faculty.
    Minimum qualifications:
    • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
    • Recent work experience as a Psych/Mental Health Advanced Practice Nurse.
    • State licensure by California Board of Registered Nursing.
    • Meet the School of Nursing ’ s requirements regarding background checks, immunizations, and CPR.
    • Per California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

    Preferred qualifications:
    • A doctorate in Nursing (DNP, PhD, or EdD with emphasis on Nursing Education)
    • Certified as a Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
    • Experience teaching psych/mental health nurse practitioner students .
    • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

    Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
    • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: 5,836 - $6,240 per full-time month

    The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:
    • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,007 - $6,359 per full-time month
    • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $5,925 - $12,594 per full-time month

    The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
