Job Description
OverviewThe Public Works Technician II - Surface Preservation works independently and part of a team to assist with the repairs and maintenance of public streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure
Responsibilities
• Follows the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
• Directs traffic control at jobsite by flagging, cones, barrel and barricades, setup message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, and II Barricade during normal & emergency operations
• Performs labor activities such as but not limited to loading and unloading tools and materials
• Shovels, sweeps, rakes, smoothing, and tamping various materials in different stages of construction
• Sprays oils from distributors and other equipment as needed
• Operates various street construction/ maintenance equipment including but not limited to trucks, rollers, compactors, street brooms, grad-all, motor graders, planers, reclaimers, asphalt, skid steer, and various other street maintenance equipment in the process of repairing and maintaining streets
• Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment such as cleaning, checking fluid levels, greasing unit, doing daily trip inspections, and reporting any defects or repairs as needed
• Ground keeping around street maintenance yard: mow grass and use weed eater around obstacles
• Sweeps curb and gutters, removes trash, and disposes of properly
• Operates power equipment and hand tools to complete job tasks, maintains safekeeping of materials and supplies in storage area
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full-Time
Non - Rotating 40-hour work week-Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications
• High School Diploma / GED
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• Candidate must register with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse if candidate has a CDL
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required - Within six (6) months of hire
• Traffic Control and Flagging certification
• Trenching and Shoring certification
• Confined Space certification
Preferred
• Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B with Air brake endorsement

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
