    Infectious Disease Investigator

    Investigates and documents possible infectious outbreaks and works with administration and the departments involved to correct the problem.

    Responsibilities

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Knowledge of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and professional healthcare association guidelines for the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
    • Conducts surveillance for reporting to the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and state and local agencies.
    • Investigates and documents possible infectious disease outbreaks and works with administration and the departments involved to resolve and prevent future outbreaks.
    • Assists in follow-up of exposures to infectious pathogens.
    • Ensures that Infection Prevention and Control guidelines for all departments are current and appropriate.
    • Prepares and conducts ongoing Infection Prevention and Control in-service education programs and presentations for all Departments.
    • Participates in Infection Prevention and Control Committee meetings by presenting relevant infection prevention and control data collected throughout surveillance periods.
    • Ensures Infection Prevention and Control Plans, Assessments, and Policies are complete and current.
    • Serves as liaison to the Engineering team regarding Infection Prevention and Control issues as they pertain to construction and remediation projects.
    • Serves as a member of the Hospital Emergency Management Committee and other relevant Committees to Infection Prevention.
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide relevant patient care and education in assigned areas, based on physical, psychological, educational, safety, and other related criteria.
    Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • Masters / BA/BS in Microbiology, Nursing, Public Health or other relevant field. An advanced degree is preferred.
    • Working knowledge of Infectious Diseases spread and Microbiology is required.
    • For nursing - New York State License in Nursing with current registration preferred
    • 3-5 years of Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred.
    • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
    • Good investigative skills. Ability to write, educate and work independently.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
