    We have a new position and we're looking for the right person tojoin the team!
    The City of Springfield is seeking a Fire Protection Review Specialist to join our dedicated team! In this vital role, you'll review construction documents and fire protection system plans, ensure compliance with fire codes and regulations, and serve as a key contact for architects, engineers, and contractors. You'll also conduct inspections and play an essential role in maintaining safety standards throughout the city.
    What You'll Do:
    • Review fire sprinkler, alarm, and firestopping plans for code compliance.
    • Coordinate the fire protection permitting process, including application review.
    • Provide technical guidance to developers, engineers, and the public.
    • Observe and witness acceptance testing of fire and alarm systems.
    • Conduct site inspections and collaborate with the Fire Marshal's Office.
    • Participate in pre-development and redevelopment meetings.
    • Maintain accurate records and produce detailed reports.
    What We're Looking For:
    • Strong knowledge of fire codes, construction practices, and permit processes.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
    • Excellent communication skills for resolving disputes and assisting the public.
    • Experience with fire protection systems and/or code enforcement preferred.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
    • Comfortable using software for plan review, permitting, and communication.
    Other Requirements:
    • Must possess a valid driver's license (for site visits and field inspections).
    • Ability to conduct field work in various weather conditions and jobsite environments.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    Experience, Education, and Training
    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection or Fire Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering or a closely related discipline;
    AND
    • A minimum of three years' work experience with demonstrated exposure to the discipline of Fire Protection Systems & Design, as an officer of the fire prevention division of a fire department which includes inspections, fire investigations and plan reviews, or related experience.
    • Experience in fire prevention division, plan review, or in a directly related field may be substituted for the education requirements on a year-for-year basis.

    Licensing/Certification
    • Obtain certification through the International Code Council as a Commercial Fire Sprinkler Inspector within probationary period;
    • Obtain the ICC Commercial Fire Alarm Inspector certification within one year from the start date;
    • Obtain the ICC Fire Plans Examiner certification within 18 months from the start date;
    • Certifications received in the correlating subject matter stated above through the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) or the National Fire Academy will be considered as equivalent.
