Position Salary Range: $6,241 - $9,361 per month
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $7,800 - $8,000 per month.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

About the Department/Position: The CSUDH Health & Well-Being cluster takes a holistic approach to care and offers a variety of resources to the CSUDH community to help students thrive while they pursue their academic success. Under the general direction of the Director of the Health, Wellness and Recreation Center (HWRC), the Assistant Director of Aquatics and Fitness implements and manages campus aquatics and fitness programming, supporting a wellness-focused approach aligned with departmental priorities. This role supports the implementation and daily management of fitness and aquatic programs including group fitness, personal training, specialty fitness and well-being programming, instructional programs, private sessions, swim lessons, summer youth aquatics, specialty aquatic and pool events, and fitness equipment rentals.
This role works collaboratively with HWRC leadership to optimize programmable spaces. The position plays an integral role in promoting an integrated model of health and well being, advancing student development, and supporting revenue-generating programming within the Health, Wellness & Recreation Center (HWRC), opening in 2026.
In collaboration with a dynamic support team, the Assistant Director maintains operational excellence while advancing an engaging, welcoming, student-centered, and well-coordinated holistic wellness environment at the HWRC.
This position requires a flexible schedule as events dictate.
Some weekends and evenings required.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities: - In collaboration with the HWRC leadership, assist in preparing, forecasting, and monitoring annual operating budget for assigned areas and complete monthly/annual, inventory, and administrative reports.
- Ensure program registration systems function efficiently and support positive participant experiences via assessment best practices and CSUDH strategic initiative alignment.
- Oversee equipment inventory and coordinate purchasing for assigned programs.
- Develop and revise handbooks, policies, and program materials.
- Contribute to departmental assessment and strategic planning efforts.
- Oversee the Aquatics/Learn to Swim program, including program scheduling, curriculum development, Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Response Plans, instructor supervision, and program assessment.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of work experience in recreation, fitness or equivalent field.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervision experience required.
- Required current certification as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work as part of and lead a team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.
- Ability to write concise, logical reports.
- Knowledge of standard practices in fitness programming (e.g. personal training, group fitness, wellness initiatives, etc.).
- Knowledge of standard practices in aquatic programming (e.g., swim lessons, aquatic fitness activities and events, summer youth aquatic experiences, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications: - CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Lifeguard certification (shallow water or deep water can be accepted) (or willingness to obtain).
- Preferred to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
- Preferred instructional/operational certifications:
- Certified Pool Operator
- CPR-AED Instructor certification
- Lifeguard-IT (instructor) certification
- Preferred knowledge in Recreation Management Software "Fusion" and “Connect2”.
- Master's degree preferred
- At least 3 years’ experience working in a collegiate/community recreation/fitness environment (or equivalent).
