    Working Title: Automotive/Equipment Mechanic

    Classification Title: Automotive/Equipment Mechanic

    Position Details

    Emergency Hire - Temporary position lasting at most 90 days with an option of being extended to 180 days.

    Position Summary

    Under general supervision, the Automotive/Equipment Mechanic performs skilled work in the overhaul, repair,
    maintenance, service and adjustment of campus automotive, heavy maintenance, heavy construction, and other
    equipment. The incumbent reviews and prioritizes work orders with the Supervising Automotive/Equipment
    Mechanic and completes work orders in proper order. Maintains a safe and clean work environment.

    FLSA: Non-Exempt

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,355.00 - $7,801.00 per month

    Hiring Range/Rate: $5,355 (step 1) to $5,796 (step 5) per month

    Salary Grade/Range: 1

    Time Base: Full-Time, Intermittent

    Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

    Department Information

    Automotive Services specializes in the repair and upkeep of a wide range of vehicles including university carts, cars, trucks, vans, and other mobile equipment. Our services extend beyond automobiles to encompass gasoline and diesel-powered machinery, spanning from large generators to weed eaters.

    Our dedicated team at Car Care Solutions conducts thorough inspections of vehicles prior to their procurement, whether they are being leased, purchased, or received as gifts. We also efficiently manage off-site repair processes to ensure minimal disruption. Adhering to local, state, and federal regulations, including those related to air quality, smog testing, and CSU executive orders, is a top priority for us. Additionally, we stay at the forefront of technological advancements, enabling our campus to acquire vehicles that align with our sustainability goals while effectively meeting our operational requirements.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge:
    Work requires thorough knowledge of automotive and/or equipment mechanics including electrical systems and
    brake and engine overhaul; thorough knowledge of methods, tools, materials, equipment and computerized systems
    used in the maintenance, adjustment and repair of engines, equipment and accessories; working knowledge of wiring
    and electrical theory and engine principles; working knowledge of hydraulic systems; and working knowledge of
    applicable state and federal regulations pertaining to automotive and other power-driven equipment, including
    applicable smog regulations.

    Abilities:
    Must be able to make skilled repairs to applicable automotive, maintenance and/or construction equipment; diagnose
    mechanical and electrical malfunctions; perform a variety of skilled repairs on equipment; work from blueprints,
    drawings and sketches to fabricate parts; perform required welding; inspect vehicles and equipment and determine
    extent of repairs; estimate cost, time and materials of mechanical work and repairs; maintain records and retrieve data
    related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports;
    provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations;
    read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.

    Experience:
    These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and
    experience as an automotive and/or equipment mechanic which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills
    equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard apprenticeship program.

    Required Qualifications

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    1. Strong knowledge of applicable regional, state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the automotive
    repair trade.

    2. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

    3. Thorough knowledge of automobile and equipment maintenance and repair, and the methods, materials,
    tools and equipment used in the automobile repair and maintenance trade.

    4. Ability to read, interpret and work from manuals, guides, and technical advisories.

    5. Ability to use a computerized maintenance management system

    6. Ability to use standard office software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel)

    7. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse environment and provide excellent
    customer service

    8. Knowledge of small engine equipment, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other areas ancillary to the
    automotive trade.

    9. Ability to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.

    10. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and

    Licenses

    11. Possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of good driving record

    12. Possession of a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.

    13. Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs. maximum

    14. Possession of a valid ASE Certification and ability to maintain it

    15. Four or more years or Journeyman level experience

    Required Licenses/Certifications

    • ASE Certification
    • Valid California Driver's License and maintenance of safe driving record required
