    Job Description

    Introduction

    Join the Scottsdale Public Library family! We are looking for a dynamic, self-starter with strong customer service skills to join the Youth Services team at the Civic Center Library. The ideal candidate is creative and loves to interact with children and caregivers as well as library users of all ages.

    About the Position:
    Although the primary focus will be on teens, tweens, and children and their caregivers, this position will also interact with diverse patrons of all ages and
    maintains flexibility to cover adult service points. Position includes offering programming to youth of all ages, including early literacy programming and outreach visits. This position provides in-person, telephone, and virtual customer service, readers advisory to library patrons of all ages, and assistance to patrons using the library's downloadable resources and databases. Our team values flexibility and we ask that each member closes one night per week and works 2-3 weekend days per month.

    This position opening may be used to fill future vacancies in both Youth and Adult services.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $24.79/hour.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
    • Six months of library or related experience.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Provide and model exceptional customer service by making the customer the first priority.
    • Establish, maintain, and foster positive, harmonious, professional, and effective working relationships.
    • Create and deliver exceptional programming and educational opportunities within the library, through community outreach, and virtually.
    • Perform daily duties in a manner consistent with the Library's mission, goals, and objectives.
    • Work at all public service points to include Customer Service Desk where payments are processed.


    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    • Most work is performed in a library service desk environment with some work performed in a normal City office environment, and some in community settings.
    • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
    • Reach, bend, stoop, lift and move arms above shoulder level; lift and carry library materials.
    • Concentrate on and complete tasks in the presence of distractions.
    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, cash register, credit card machine, bar code reader, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
    • Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
    • Work a varied schedule at various locations, including weekends and evenings.
