    The City of Santa Fe Springs Fire-Rescue is accepting applications for the position of Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic to serve our community.

    Candidates successful in all phases of the examination process will be placed on an eligibility list for employment consideration by tier. The eligibility list, will be certified for a minimum of one year but may be extended for a maximum of two-years. This list will be used to fill current vacancies and future vacancies that may occur during the eligibility list certification period.

    To be considered as a Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic, applicants must be actively employed by another California Fire Agency order to transfer.

    Under direct supervision, provides basic and advanced life support services to ill or injured persons in accordance with policies established by the Department of Health Services of Los Angeles County, performs general firefighting activities, victim rescue, and related duties.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

    Receives direct supervision from a Fire Captain.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

    None.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    A. Held in Common:

    Supports the Mission of the City and its Elected and Appointed Officials.
    Provides courteous and timely service to the public as the ultimate employer.Works cooperatively with other City employees.Exhibits integrity and displays ethical behavior.

    B. Essential Job Specific Duties:

    Responds to emergencies and fire alarms.Performs fire control activities, exposure tactics, ventilation, fire containment and extinguishment, laddering, exposure protection, and salvage work.Performs victim rescue, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, electrical defibrillation, intravenous access, primary and secondary physical assessments of ill or injured persons. Performs advanced airway management procedures for patients with compromised breathing. Immobilizes injured limbs and spinal vertebrae when injury is suspected.Administers medication.Responds to hazardous materials releases.Attends required training programs, including Paramedic school if applicable.Provides basic and advanced life support.

    In addition to the above, Firefighter/Paramedic employees will utilize advanced protocols per the LA County Department of Health Services policies. They will also lead, mentor and train Firefighter/Paramedic Trainees.

    C. Other Job Specific Duties
    Inspects, operates, and maintains all related equipment.Performs traffic control.Conducts public education sessions on fire/emergency safety practices and procedures.Prepares fire alarm reports.Inspects buildings and follows fire and building codes and federal, state, local, and departmental rules and regulations.Identifies common, special, structural, and panic hazards.Performs related duties as required.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    The following requirements generally demonstrate possession of the minimum requisite knowledge and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position.

    Education:
      ◦ High School Diploma or an equivalent certificate or diploma recognized by the State of California.
    License/Certification:
      ◦ Graduate of a California State Fire Fire Training Firefighter 1 Academy delivered by an OSFM-accredited ARTP or ALA.
      ◦ A valid State of California driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment.
      ◦ State of California Paramedic certification.
      ◦ Firefighter 1 certification preferred.
      ◦ 24 Hour Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational certification preferred.
      ◦ Hazardous Materials Technician certification preferred.
      ◦ Hazardous Materials Specialist certification preferred.
      ◦ Urban Search and Rescue training certification preferred.
    Experience:
    Prospective lateral Firefighter/Paramedic candidates will possess at least three (3) years of experience as a Firefighter, with at least one complete year as a Firefighter Paramedic.

    EXAMINATION PROCESS AND TESTING COMPONENTS
    Following are the components and tentative schedule of the examination process:

    I. Application Submission and Review (Pass/Fail)

    Applicants must complete and submit an official City employment application. Applications will be reviewed to determine compliance with the minimum qualifications, and those qualified will be invited to participate in the testing qualifications, and those qualified will be invited to participate in the testing process. Candidates will be notified via email for their eligibility to participate.
    NOTE: Resumes or faxed copies will not be accepted in lieu of the City online application.

    II. Oral Board Interview (weighted 100%)
    This will assess the applicant's qualifications and skills relative to the criteria for the rank. The minimum passing score for this examination is 70%. Oral Board Interview is tentative scheduled for the weeks of October 13, 2025 and October 27, 2025.

    ELIGIBLE LIST: Candidates who successfully complete the examination process listed above with an overall combined weighted score of 70 percent or better, will be placed on an Eligibility List. Candidates will remain on the eligibility list for one year, unless exhausted sooner, for possible future consideration. At the department's request, the eligibility list may be extended up to an additional 12 months.

    METHOD OF SELECTION:
    Selection is based upon an application review and a structured interview.

    Appointment will be contingent upon passing a background investigation, polygraph examination, criminal record check and physical examination, including a drug screen.

    NEPOTISM POLICY:
