Evaluating the questions listed below, before you begin your search, will help you stay on track and find a job that is perfectly suited for you and your family.

Work Schedule

Are you looking for a part-time or full-time job? What hours are you willing and/or able to work? Do you need to find a job that enables you to leave on time every day or is some overtime acceptable? If full-time, should your hours be 9-5, 8-4 or 7-3?

Time Off

How important is vacation and sick time? Does the company offer personal time so that when your child is ill, you don’t have to take vacation days off? If your child is ill within the first six months, will you be able to take the time off, even if it’s unpaid?

Career Growth or Stability

If you were in a high level, demanding position before you became a parent, are you ready to assume that level of responsibility again? Or, would you rather find a stable position that you enjoy, but one that does not require as much effort or attention outside the office?

Work Location

Do you need to find a job close to home? Should you look for jobs where you can telecommute daily or once a week?

Child Care

Have you found someone responsible to take care of your child so that you can be worry free once you get back to work and have the emotional & mental stamina that it requires?

Compensation

How important is the compensation offered for the position? Should your salary be equal to or above the cost of daycare, or are you simply going back to work for personal career development? Does the position need to come with benefits?
