Are there any government jobs where a portion of the compensation is performance based?

If by ”performance based” you mean for example bonus pay for the number of parking tickets issued, permits processed or grant funds obtained, the answer is no. Most performance based bonuses in the private sector are designed to increase profits and they do not translate well in the not-for-profit public service environment. However, performance is routinely rewarded in government through merit pay increases, special assignments and promotions which are often based on achieving specific performance benchmarks.
