Job Description and Duties SENIOR PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) - SAN LUIS OBISPO COAST DISTRICT / HEARST SAN SIMEON STATE PARK CAMPGROUND Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Informs students and parents of the proper procedures of eligibility and special rules for the particular sport; posts rules and issues them to each participant. 6. POSITION SUMMARY: Conduct group swim lessons for participants of all ages and abilities in the Aquatics Center at the Glenwood Springs Community Center following American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program curriculum. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prepare lesson plans for group swim lessons. Gather, stage, and return necessary equipment. Instruct up to 6 participants per swim lesson independently. If provided, brief Swim Aide on lesson plan and actively involve Swim Aide in swim lesson. Maintain a safe and inviting learning environment for participants. Communicate with participants and parents/guardians of participants before and/or after swim lessons the information to be covered, any areas of excellence or needed improvement, and plans for the next swim lesson. Complete and provide achievement cards to participants at end of session. Distribute Program Feedback forms to participants or parents/guardians at end of session. Provide Aquatics Coordinator total number of successful, unsuccessful, and not evaluated participants at end of session. Positively interact with and provide exceptional customer service to the general public. CORE COMPETENCIES: Demonstrate strong customer service skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a group atmosphere. Reliable and self-disciplined. Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing. Use good judgment, take initiative, and respond diplomatically and professionally to issues. Demonstrate the ability to perform front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and butterfly. EDUCATION, TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS: Necessary: Must be at least 16 years of age or older. Must have current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification, State Certified Teaching License, USA Swimming or American Swimming Coaches Association coach certification, or have 2 years verifiable swim instruction experience.
