DEPARTMENT: Family and Consumer Sciences POSITION TITLE: Lecturer Pool - Nutrition, Food and Dietetics POSITION DETAILS: The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is seeking qualified instructors for courses in the Nutrition, Food, and Dietetics major. We seek instructors from the fields of nutrition, food safety, food management, community nutrition, and food sustainability. Familiarity and/or experience with the role of nutrition and food in individual and family health, cultural and behavioral influences on food selection, and the management of commercial and noncommercial food systems is favored. Duties of a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with our existing faculty. We seek instructors from the fields of nutrition, food safety, food management, community nutrition, and food sustainability. Position Description: Positions in this job family are involved in paraprofessional dietetic work in a nutrition and dietetic service unit in a facility, institution, school, hospital or public health department. This is the career level of this job family where employees are responsible for performing all functions involving paraprofessional dietetic work in a nutrition and dietetic service unit or in a public health department. In this role they will conduct and assist in conducting nutritional assessments of individuals, including anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests using standardized procedures, clinical or physical examination, dietary intake and economic, social and environmental factors. Employees will also provide nutritional education to individual patients, and discuss dietary problems of patients with doctors, nurses and other allied health personnel. Duties: Interviews patients and takes diet histories. Reviews patient medical charts for dietetic and nutritional information. Assists nutrition therapist in determining appropriate nutritional care of patients. Gives individual diet instructions to patients with normal and modified diets, as directed by a nutrition therapist. Conducts classes on general nutrition and consumer education. Participates in public information and educational activities regarding nutrition. Maintains records and prepares reports Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior. Works effectively in team environment, participating and assisting their peers. Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in dietetic technology or a closely related field; or two years of experience working under the supervision of a dietitian/nutrition therapist in a facility, institution, school, hospital or public health setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Application Requirements: If education, certification or licensure is required to meet qualifications, applicants must provide documentation at the time of application. All applicants are subject to a background check and must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of patient food service delivery in a hospital, school, public health department, institutional or facility setting; of basic principles of nutrition, sanitation and food-handling practices; and of the basic principles of dietetics. Ability is required to identify dietary deficiencies in menus; design special diets for review by a nutrition therapist; and follow written and oral medical and dietetic instructions. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Combination of office, vehicle, and homes. Varied activities including sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, pushing, and reaching. Work related travel may be required. Telework: This position is not eligible for Telework / Hybrid and is subject to OSDH policy and supervisor’s discretion.
