This position also supports individuals with disabilities who prefer to participate in traditional recreation programs offered by the Parks and Recreation Department in the form of adaptive equipment, program modifications, support staff, and other services to facilitate inclusion. Highlights of Assistant Program Specialist job duties and responsibilities: Plan and lead Therapeutic Recreation programs, excursions, and events Promote inclusion services for all City programs Supervise and interacts with participants during program activities and excursions Provide limited personal care such as hand washing, assistance with clothing, verbal prompting in restroom, cutting food, and administering medication. Parks and Recreation offers two community-based therapeutic recreation programs and assistance in determining the most effective means of inclusion support for individuals to participate in any Parks & Recreation program. On The Go is a community-based recreation program for adults of varying abilities wishing to meet new friends through recreation and independent living activities. The program is designed for ages 22 and up and follows the Clark County School District's 9-month calendar. On the Go operates from 2:00pm to 5:30pm Monday through Friday at Henderson Multigenerational Center, Silver Springs Recreation Center and Valley View Recreation Center, and is not offered during the summer. Rec & Roll is a recreation program for young adults with disabilities that provides opportunities to explore recreational interests in a structured environment as well as develop the skills needed for independence. The program is designed for grades 9 to 12 (or up to 21 years of age) and follows the Clark County School District's 9-month calendar. Rec & Roll operates from 1:30pm to 5:30pm Monday through Friday at the Henderson Multigenerational Center and Valley View Recreation Center, and is not offered during the summer How many hours will you work each week? That depends on your availability and where we need you to work. There is no guarantee to a certain number of hours each week, but part-time hourly employees may work up to 19 hours per week year-round and up to 40+ hours per week when working during the summer. You may be scheduled to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays depending on assignment and work location. What about COVID-19? If hired, you will be required to wear a face covering while at work and follow all City of Henderson COVID-19 safety policies, procedures, and practices like social distancing, washing your hands, and sanitizing work areas. Program participants and patrons visiting our centers must also comply with all COVID-19 safety rules and state directives in order to use our facilities and participate in programs. This position is located at the Golf Course JOB SUMMARY : Under direct supervision, independently carries out programs for both indoor and outdoor parks and recreation activities. Works directly with program participants in a physically active recreation program environment. Recreation program assignments are varied and may include early childhood, aquatics, golf course, sports (adult and youth), class instruction, seniors, mobile recreation, special events, safekey (before and after school - elementary youth), and day camp. Participates in continuing education/staff development programs and other hospital departmental and professional licensing requirements. Prepares requests for equipment and supplies to be submitted to the supervisor for budgetary input. Develops and maintains patient records, records clinical notes on patient charts, and prepares patient progress reports for reference by the treatment team. Requirements Selection Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Therapy or in Therapeutic Recreation. License: Current certification to practice as a Recreation Therapist issued by the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification or as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation -OR - Have filed an application for such a certificate. The certificate must be presented upon publication of the results of the next examination after the date of filing for the certificate. A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job related essential functions. In some cases, a valid California Class B Driver License may be required for appointment to some positions in this class. Physical Class III - Moderate : Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds. Additional Information Special Requirement Information In order to receive credit for any college course work, or any type of college degree, such as a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, completion of a certificate program, certificate or license, you must include a legible copy of the official diploma, official transcripts, official letter from the accredited institution which shows the area of specialization; or official license or certificates with your application within 15 calendar days of filing. Available Shift Any Examination Content This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based on application information weighted at 100%. Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register. Vacancy Information The resulting eligible register from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur. Eligibility Information Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly. The names of candidates receiving a passing score on the examination will be added to the eligible register and will appear in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.
