About Our Job As part of the DPR Community Recreation Division, our After-School Programs offer a safe place for youth to get assistance with homework, have a snack, socialize, and exercise. The After-School team is devoted to engaging the community through facilitating a wide variety of After-School activities for a diverse group of youth, ages 5-12. Our Program Activities include (but are not limited to): S.O.A.R. After-School Program that provides meaningful skill development is built around academics, sports and wellness, arts and culture, and community engagement Our Child-Care partnership with the Nonprofit Scholars Unlimited You can view our full current activity guide through the Denver Parks & Recreation Website. Our team is looking for After-School Youth Activities Leaders to join us for our Spring After-School Programming Season. Community Recreation Activities Leaders are devoted to enriching the community around them and are passionate about interacting positively with a diverse group of youth ages 5-12. Our After-School Activities Leaders: Supervise and facilitate all aspects of operations on site Ensure program standards including quality and safety of youth Effectively communicate with participants, parents, co-workers, and/or school personnel Display professionalism in the workplace Plan program activities with your team resulting in weekly/bi-weekly calendars Update program rosters on a regular basis Maintain daily attendance records, distributes and collects evaluations as requested Adhere to all licensed child care regulations as determined by the State of Colorado Monitor site budgets and ordering supplies in a timely manner Manage the online participant information tracking tool This position has regular hours; our After-School Program runs for 2-4 hours after school Monday through Friday. Applicants must be available during these times. This is an on-call (part-time) position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. About You We are looking for candidates with strong skills in organization, leadership, problem solving, oral/written communication, and working/planning with teams, and ensuring implementation and coordination of all activities. Experience with youth development and behavior management is expected and knowledge of child care licensing regulations is preferred. Our ideal candidate will have: Experience in instructing and/or facilitating the aforementioned Community Recreation programs and activities Experience in leading a team of three (3) or more employees within a youth program or project Minimum of 960 hours of experience working directly with youth Some experience working with youth with disabilities Experience or training in behavior management and supervision of elementary and/or middle school youth Experience in facilitating programming for and/or instructing youth, ages 5 - 12 Current CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions, and/or Medication Administration Certification Bilingual skills We realize your time is valuable, so please do not apply unless you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate. Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience (paid or volunteer) as an instructor in an organized specialized recreation program. Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. License/Certifications: Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or prior to completion of probation period. Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment.
