    Essential Job Functions

    • Installs, configures, tests, maintains, and repairs digital communication systems and related equipment.
    • Installs and removes network-related equipment and cabling infrastructure to support telecommunications operations.
    • Assists in troubleshooting communication system malfunctions and performing repairs.
    • Performs preventive maintenance on communications equipment and systems.
    • Assists in setting up and testing new or upgraded communication systems.
    • Responds to work orders by performing diagnostics and conducting repairs at County facilities.
    • Maintains records and logs of installations, maintenance activities, and repairs.
    • Follows safety procedures and uses required protective equipment while performing field work.
    • Transports, inventories, and organizes parts and equipment for projects.
    • Coordinates with technicians and contractors to support installation, repair, and maintenance activities.

    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
    Three years of experience in the installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and repair of digital telephone private branch exchange (PBX) and key switching systems, one year of which must have been at the journey-level*.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform essential job-relatedfunctions.

    LICENSE INFORMATION:
    Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    VISION:
    Vision and color perception must be adequate to effectively and safety perform essential job-related duties.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
    *Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range and diversity of work independently and reliably. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate solving method and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedure to carry out work.

    This examination will consist of TWO (2) parts:

    MULTIPLE CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENT(S) ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

    Part II: An evaluation of Training and Experience, weighted at 40%, assessing:
    • Professional/Technical Knowledge of Digital Communications Systems
    • Professional/Technical Knowledge of Equipment and Tools
    • Knowledge of Industry Standards, Codes, and Safety Regulations
    • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving
    • Leadership and Teamwork

    Applicants must meet the minimum requirements and achieve 70% or higher on the combined score of Parts I and II in order to be placed on the eligible list.

    ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:
    Candidates who passed the assessments are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies in Los Angeles County Public Works as they occur.
