    The Position

    Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, landscape equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators.

    Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept to include journey level duties such as extensive electrical and fuel system diagnosis and repair work, rebuilding complete transmissions, converting surplus military vehicles to fire apparatus, and performing mechanical inspections of vehicles involved in accidents. Incumbents may provide training, work direction and review to semi-skilled equipment shop staff such as Equipment Mechanic Is, Fleet Service Workers, students, and inmate workers. This is the journey level in the series.

    The Nevada Highway Patrol Division (NHP) is recruiting for a Equipment Mechanic II for the Reno location. Equipment Mechanics maintain, diagnose, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive equipment and diesel-fueled electric power generators. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The majority of the work will be on light duty vehicles comprised of Ford Explorers, F150s, and Dodge Chargers. Trade school and/or dealership experience is preferred but not required. The applicant does not need a 1G Emissions Inspector license at the time of hire but will need to obtain one within the first year of employment. The assigned shift will be five 8-hour days; day shift or possibly swing shift.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprentice-ship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR one year experience as an Equipment Mechanic I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Positions in the Division of Forestry must pass a physical agility test, medical examinations, and background investigations provided by the agency. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
