    Salary Summary:

    • Highway Designer - $65,335.68 annually
    • Intermediate Highway Designer - $70,562.40
    • Senior Highway Designer - $76,207.20

    Job Summary:

    Highway Designer - District Utility Coordinator

    • The District Utility Coordinator is responsible for coordinating with utility companies and municipalities for any required utility adjustments or relocations on current and future projects. Reviews items for conformance to plans, specifications, special provisions, and terms of agreements. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.


    Intermediate Highway Designer - District Utility Coordinator

    • The District Utility Coordinator is responsible for coordinating with utility companies and municipalities for any required utility adjustments or relocations on current and future projects. Reviews items for conformance to plans, specifications, special provisions, and terms of agreements. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.


    Senior Highway Designer - District Utility Coordinator

    • The District Utility Coordinator is responsible for coordinating with utility companies and municipalities for any required utility adjustments or relocations on current or future projects. Reviews items for conformance to plans, specifications, special provisions, and terms of agreements. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.

    Minimum/Required Qualifications

    Highway Designer - District Utility Coordinator

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
    • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and medical-physical examination.
    • Certification Required for Inspectors (The successful candidate will need to obtain): Initial 40 Hours Asbestos Worker/Supervisor license with MDNR - Hands on Training, pass (2) two written test with 80%.
    • Annual (8) hour refresher course and test per EPA/MDNR regulations to stay current with license.


    Intermediate Highway Designer - District Utility Coordinator

    Construction Inspector - District Utility Coordinator

    Intermediate Construction Inspector - District Utility Coordinator

    • Job may require occasional, statewide, overnight travel

    • Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse other otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.


    Senior Construction Inspector - District Utility Coordinator

    • Job may require occasional, statewide, overnight travel
    • Job requires moderate physical activity
    • Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse other otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.


    Examples of Work:

    Highway Designer - District Utility Coordinator

    • Coordinates and performs construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
    • Coordinates with design and construction to ensure that utility information is correctly shown on the plans. Requests locates through the MO One Call System.
    • Assist with District Utility Engineers (DUEs) in meeting with the utility companies on future and current projects. This includes working with the utility companies during the design and construction stages of a project to coordinate the adjustment or relocation of their facilities based on the project work schedule.
    • Track and document work in the field on all utility reimbursable and non-reimbursable work. Complete C-9 and Final Utility Reports. Maintains required construction documentation, records, and files; prepares progress and other reports. Keeps DUE and supervisor fully informed as to activities or unusual conditions on the job.
    • Assist permit inspectors with utility issues related to permit work on MoDOT R/W.
    • Work with the design/construction personnel to establish electrical service for new power supply assemblies on signal, lighting, and ITS projects.
    • Work with MoDOT contractors to ensure work proceeds safely around all active utilities on projects. Coordinate critical contractor work on projects with the utility companies.
    • Inspect and prepare C-9 and Final Utility Reports on Railroad grade improvement projects.
    • On-site inspection of utilities for consideration of sale of excess right of way.
    • Demolition Activities.
    • Design - Perform Field checks with Design at each location #parcel descriptions, any well or septic tank removals, debris, sheds, sidewalks, patios, trees, etc. that needs to be removed.
    • Verify Maintenance of MoDOT Owned Property - (by others, coordinated through Construction) - All buildings are secured- doors locked, windows closed and not broken out, grass is being mowed, tree branches picked up, lots are clean of debris, no parcels are being "dumped" on - roped off if needed, No Trespassing signs posted.
    • Abatement - Oversee asbestos removal and coordinate air-monitoring personnel. Verify quantities and removal practices of abatement contractor. Perform final inspection after removal and review waste manifest for proper disposal prior to payment.
    • Demolition - Verify if all notifications, asbestos removal/clearances, and utilities disconnects performed. Monitor and document contractor progress.
    • UST (Underground Storage Tanks) - Coordination with contractor, MoDOT Environmental Compliance, and MDNR on the testing and removal of Underground Storage Tanks.
    • Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
