    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position performs routine (journey-level) state park operations work including interpretation and the preservation of Cooper Lake State Park and Bonham State Park. Promotes conservation and stewardship of natural and cultural resources. Responsible for interpreting the geological setting of the park as well as providing information about park history to the public. Conducts interpretive programs, tours, hikes, and special events and promotes outreach programs with schools, libraries, scouts and other organizations. Assists with maintenance and cleaning of park buildings and grounds, and other park projects. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

    NOTE : Temporary position contingent upon funding with fluctuating full-time/part-time hours based on operational needs


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    No experience.

    Licensure :

    Applicant must possess a valid state driver's license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience :

    Experience working with the public.

    Experience in park interpretation and continuing education programs.

    Experience in natural and/or cultural resource management.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of natural and cultural resources;

    Knowledge of special event implementation;

    Knowledge of facility, equipment and ground maintenance;

    Knowledge of basic mathematics;

    Knowledge of park operations and maintenance practices;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

    Skill in planning, organizing and implementing public presentations and guided tours for various age groups;

    Skill in effective interpretive techniques, program preparation and presentations;

    Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment;

    Ability to work as a member of a team;

    Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected;

    Ability to issue permits;

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

    Ability to train others;

    Ability to survey customers for program quality;

    Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Position contingent upon funding;

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;

    Required to work 10 to 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

    Hours may be reduced or extended as needed through primary peak season from March to September;

    Required to adjust to changing schedules;

    Required to work overtime as necessary;

    This position will fluctuate between part-time and full-time status throughout the term of employment. Changing from part-time to full-time and vice versa may impact the amount of leave accrued and health insurance rates;

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

    Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

    May be required to operate a State vehicle;

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
