    Description

    WHAT WE OFFER
    • General Salary Increase - 3.5% effective December 22, 2024.
    • Educational Incentive - An educational incentive of 5% for completion of a graduate's degree.
    • Bilingual Incentive - Proficiency levels by exam are $.69 per hour (Level I), $1.00 per hour (Level II), or $1.32 per hour (Level III).
    • Vacation Accrual - New regular, full-time employees shall accrue approximately 14 days of vacation a year for the first 10,400 hours or 5 years of service; vacation accruals increase at 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 20 years of service topping out at 26 days a year and 400 hours of vacation hours banked.
    • Annual Leave Redemption - After 14,560 hours of continuous service an employee may elect to "cash in" or redeem up to 80 hours of vacation accrued in the same year after using 80 hours of vacation in the preceding 12 months.
    • Sick Leave - Full time regular employees accrue 3.08 hours of sick leave per pay period with an advance at hire of 40.04 hours which will be balanced at the completion of 13 bi-weekly pay periods.
    • Deferred Compensation - Eligible to participate in the County's 401(k) Shared Savings Plan and/or the Section 457 Plan. This position is eligible for up to a 2.5% match on your 401(k) contributions.
    • Health Plans - Full time employees are afforded a flexible credit allowance for purchasing medical, dental, and/or vision insurance from a group of authorized plans: Tier one for employee only is $497 per biweekly pay period, tier two for employee plus one is $678 per biweekly pay period and tier three for employee plus family is $825 per biweekly pay period.
    • Flexible Spending Accounts - Choice of participation in the Flexible Spending Accounts which increase spending power through reimbursement of pre-tax dollars for IRS approved dependent care and health care expenses.
    • Pension Plan - Both the County and employees contribute to the County's Retirement Plan and to Social Security. If eligible, reciprocity may be established with other public retirement systems, such as PERS.
    • Holidays - 12 paid days per year which includes a scheduled floating holiday.
    VENTURA COUNTY
    The County's 1,873 square miles include 1,846 square miles of land with 42 miles of coastline which is home to the fol lowing cities and points of interest: Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Ventura as well as national protected areas such as parts of the Angeles National Forest, Channel Islands National Park, and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

    Ventura County is a “general law” county, governed by a five-member, elected-by-district Board of Supervisors. The Supervisors appoint a County Executive Officer (CEO) to oversee the County budget, day-to-day operations, and to advise, assist, and act as an agent for the Board of Supervisors in all matters under the Board’s jurisdiction. It focuses on serving its residents by promoting engagement, strategy, execution and accountability to include diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to ensure that all employees are treated with respect and without discrimination, and to improve culturally appropriate outcomes for community members.

    THE POSITION
    As a member of the Ambulatory Care, Magnolia West Clinic, health care team, the Bariatric Registered Dietitian is responsible for the nutrition assessment of bariatric surgery candidate patients, medical weight loss patients and patients with general dietitian needs. The dietitian develops and implements nutrition care plans and nutrition therapy for bariatric surgery candidates and no bariatric patients evaluating and adjusting treatments as necessary in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary treatment team. In addition, this dietitian will provide group education and therapy services.

    In addition, the incumbent may participate in the education of co-workers, including resident physicians and outpatient education at off-campus clinic sites to address chronic care management needs of bariatric surgery and other high-risk patients, including patients diagnosed with diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, obesity, etc.

    The Registered Dietitian II is the journey level of the series. The Registered Dietitian III is the advanced journey/lead level of the series.

    PAYROLL TITLES/APPROXIMATE SALARIES
    Registered Dietitian II: $28.21 - $41.53 Hourly
    Registered Dietitian III: $31.96 - $47.04 Hourly

    Registered Dietitians are represented by the Service Employees' International Union and are eligible for overtime compensation.

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties may include but are not limited to the following (both levels):

    • Conducts assessment of patient’s nutritional risk status utilizing patient medical diagnosis, patient medical history, social determinants of health and other clinical information related to patient care;
    • Collaborates with multidisciplinary care teams, participates in interdisciplinary patient care conferences and provides recommendations regarding diet order and patient education goals based on patient's plan of care specializing in bariatric surgery patients;
    • Provides medical nutrition therapy, nutritional counseling and education according to the Nutrition Care Process, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation specific to bariatric surgical nutritional needs;
    • Determines individual diagnosis and develops individualized intervention and care plans.
    • Develops, evaluates, and updates education materials and education program curriculum appropriate to the needs of the clinic and its patient population; ensures that teaching materials reflect the treatment standards established by evidence-based guidelines;
    • Provides nutrition education to patients through individual in-person consults, group classes, or telehealth with specialization in bariatric surgery patients;
    • Ensures correct and timely documentation and billing in the patient’s electronic medical record;
    • Leads health education/nutritional programs to address chronic care management needs of high-risk patients, including patients diagnosed with diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, obesity, etc.;
    • Follows Ambulatory Care department’s guidelines, procedures, and protocols for patient care and service quality;
    • Assumes responsibility for on-going professional development in field with an emphasis on bariatric surgical nutrition;
    • Monitors and evaluates nutritional status and health goals, including self-management goals of patients;
    • Refers patients to both internal and external services and programs when appropriate.
    • Attends meetings as requested;
    • Performs related duties as required.


    Typical Qualifications

    These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
    Possession of a Bachelor's degree with a major in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field;
    and
    Current Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) registration;

    Registered Dietitian II:
    Two (2) years of clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian

    Registered Dietitian III:
    Three (3) years of clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian

    Necessary Special Requirements

    • At least one (1) year experience in bariatric surgical nutrition planning which include:
      • Developing nutritional programs including goals, objectives and evaluations.
      • Developing and implementing nutrition care plans and nutrition therapy for bariatric surgery candidates and patients to recover safely and optimize health and weight loss after undergoing weight loss surgery.
      • Working cooperatively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
      • Incumbents must complete Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in compliance with CDR requirements as a condition of continued employment.
    Effective writing skills must be demonstrated in the completion of the employment application and supplemental questionnaire.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Working (Level II) to thorough (Level III) knowledge of: nutrition sciences, diet therapy; quality assurance; clinical policies and procedures; nutrient composition of foods; nutritional requirements of children, adolescents, and adults; meal and menu planning for individuals with special dietary problems especially bariatric surgical nutrition; principles of therapeutic nutrition including bariatric surgical nutrition; medical terminology as it relates to dietetic services and patient/client nutritional care; local state, and federal regulations related to food and nutrition services as they apply to dietetic services and health care facility; the Joint Commission (TJC) regulations and standards applicable to hospital dietetic services; and community resources in nutrition and public health; and basic training and leadership methods.

    Thorough knowledge of (Level III only): nutritional care for patients with special health care needs related to bariatric surgery as well as others such as, which may include metabolic disorders, chronic and digestive diseases, etc.; program planning processes including writing programs goals, objectives, and evaluations; and nutritional care of patients with substance abuse problems, mental illness, and/or drug/nutrient interactions.

    Skilled in (Level II AND III) : D eveloping and implementing bariatric nutrition care plans and therapy for bariatric surgery candidates and patients.

    Ability to (Level II AND III): perform nutrition assessment, therapy, and education; calculate nutrient needs and recommend appropriate enteral and parenteral nutrition therapy; develop, evaluate and update nutrition education materials; develop, implement and monitor individual and group dietary plans; communicate with patients and other health care professionals verbally, in writing, and as a speaker/instructor; interpret program/facility policies and procedures; effectively lead, assign and coordinate the work of others; work cooperatively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team; develop and/or evaluate menus, and prepare special reports.

    Ability to (Level III only): perform advanced-level nutrition assessments; provide technical assistance to other agency and community programs; evaluate nutrition programs and materials; supervise subordinate staff including planning, organizing, and evaluating work; and assess staff training needs, and organize and conduct training for professionals, paraprofessional and other employees.
