    This position may be filled at one of three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, an Intermediate starting salary of $44,224.56, and a Senior starting salary of $48,621.60.

    Job Location: Sikeston, MO

    Why you’ll love this position: The design technician provides semi-skilled technical or paraprofessional support in the preparation of plans and documents used in the design of roadway projects. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

    • Utilizes computer aided drafting, road design software and various other computer software packages to assist in the preparation of computer-generated design plans and survey processing related activities; may produce project plans, locate information on aerial and topographic maps, crosscheck plans & specification and prepare detailed reports and graphs.
    • Makes mathematical computations related to field layout, note reduction, horizontal closure checks, and vertical network adjustments; may check computations of others.
    • Gathers data during field checks by sketching, measuring, performing calculations, and utilizing photography to prepare plan sheets and summarize project information.
    • Utilizes design software, computer aided drafting & design, or calculator to calculate quantities, and ensure accuracy of detailed drawings, aerial photography, survey data, shop drawings and finished plans or maps as required for project assignments and adherence to contract provisions; prepares summaries of quantities.
    • Prepares displays and graphics (project overviews, maps and photos) for public hearings and presentations; prepares handouts for bid lettings, public hearings, legal hearings and public meetings.
    • Researches and maintains historical databases and records; locates and reproduces highway plans that are kept on microfilm or compact disk for designers, the general public, contractors, consultants, and utility companies.
    • Researches notes and automated records for availability of National Geodetic Survey's (NGS) horizontal and vertical control monuments, property boundary markers, public land corner (USPLSS) and public deed records, and Geographic Reference System (GRS) monumentation, assists in measuring and recording accessory locations for recovery documents.
    • Transfers electronic data collector files, raw observation files, and control files to computer or computer aided drafting (CAD) utilizing transfer software; assists in the generating of map models, terrain models and editing of automated files and boundary surveys; may archive survey data upon review.
